You didn't mention that the PC version has the "XL" mode on certain maps which massively increases the amount of bots on the map to a ridiculous level and due to limitations was not on any of the console versions.

I loved this mode! If I remember right it was only on Geonosis, Kashyyyk, and Hoth since those are the biggest maps. But yeah it was 64 vs 64 and utter chaos. Kashyyyk straight up felt like you were storming Normandy.

Fun fact, if you went into the ship you normally saw 3 things you could take out: The shields, the Life Support, and Engines. What most players may not have noticed was the 4th, optional, destroyable. The center pillar in the hub actually was the auto-turret controller, meaning if you destroyed it the turrets on the main ship would stop firing (though no on the frigates). Most of my friends never knew that growing up. Also talk about spending 2 hours: using the pilot's repair tool to try and revive the shields from the inside, which turned out to be possible surprisingly.
@megapro1257 ай бұрын
I never knew you could repair the shield despite playing the game many hours on PS2 and later on PC. Mindblown

I remember the PSP version being not well received by the press back then, but I was still impressed personally to have Battlefront 2 in your pocket. Great time. If only they could have released the original BF3 :( One of the best SW games, even if I think that BF1 is as good if not better in some aspects. Small note on the Xbox version: BF1 and BF2 are available on Xbox One and Xbox series for purchase, and BF2 Contains ALL the DLCs (they patched it a couple of years ago)! I've played quite a bit on steam too now, I highly recommend the Saga Edition mod pack. It includes all BF1 maps, brand new maps some are massive, cross era battles, new game modes, a total of 9 units per faction now, also textures have been upscaled much more noticably in space

if you're checking out mods for BF2 then I do recommend the Saga Edition mod on ModDB. it does a lot like instant action AI hero's, more planets in galactic conquest and you can also make the AI much harder in the game, it also adds several maps from Star Wars battlefront 1. and also, some units can change depending on which map is pick and more hero's to play in both eras like starkiller. certain worlds are also randomized in Galactic conquest so that means that if you where to attack Naboo and then the AI attacks it later, the map might be either theed night or Naboo plains. and the best part about the mod is that its in its own folder separate from the main game, meaning it does not do anything to the vanilla game at all. the mod also uses much better models as well and different variants of clones depending what map is picked.

Somehow I preferred BF I over II. It looked more pleasing to look at. Like there was a filter that made everything look smoother. II had more edges graphically and less vibrant colors. Also I couldn't care less about heroes. I liked to play the common soldier and got quickly annoyed in II when either the AI or another player attacked me with a hero/villian.
@tamasfoldesi23587 ай бұрын
The AI will only attack you with a hero or villain in Hero Assault in the vanilla version. And the graphics of the second game is much better especially if you set it right.

I remember getting this game when I was a kid. I was at Taekwondo practice at the age of around 12 I think, and I had bought Battlefront 2 for PS2 with my birthday money before practice, which made me think of just the game, as I knew my dad was holding onto it while he was watching me and my sisters practice. I also farted when we had to do stretching and sit with our legs in a crossed-like position.. I pointed at my sister and blamed it on her, but she was on the other side of the studio.. so that didn't go too well. I couldn't get my head straight since I was so psyched to play it.. :P That felt like my longest training session ever which just lasted an hour .. Good times.. I miss that feeling of going into a Gamestop / EB Games or going to the preview booths etc.. Almost 30 and none of this exists..

As we're on the topic of the good old battlefront 2 (which is very close to my heart) I will tell a little story about how I've got my hands on my copy of it too and why it's so close to me. It's actually pretty funny because my first contact with the battlefront 2 (or anything star wars related) was almost 20y ago when my cousin came to visit us (he lives abroad so we saw each other 2 times a year at best) and he brought his PSP with few games (including the battlefront 2 version on it) I've played in all of them but the one that got me really into it was the star wars battlefront 2 one, it in fact got me so much into it that I took all my savings and went with my parents to a shop so they could buy me an PSP just so I could play it myself too. Now after 20y I still come back to that PSP version of the game that suck me in this universe so much that I'm a big star wars fan till this day. I'm still amazed how they were able to make it run and look so good (back in the day) on such small device. I've got later the pc version too and even tho I really liked it (especially when you put some mods in it) the PSP version kept (and still keeps) a warm spot in my heart for all the nights I've wasted on playing in the conquest mode just to conquer the galaxy before going to sleep or to make the one man stand when I was the last one alive and the enemy still had 50 reinforcements left.

Speaking of the PSP Version: The PSP got two more Battlefront games. The first one was ok but the second one was revolutionary, it ran on the same engine as Battlefront 2, but it had space and ground maps fused into one, so on the ground you could take a ship like an X-Wing and then either give ground support, or just fly into space to have a big Capital Ship vs Capital Ship battle. You could board it just like in Battlefront 2, except you could destroy the main reactor to blow it up, upon which it would go into a selfdestruct sequence during which you could either head to the hangar to escape, or take an escape pod which would launch you back down onto the ground map where you could see the ship explode from the ground. It was amazing and I really wish they would have made a console version of that, it would have knocked Battlefront 2 out of the park.

Elite squadron. It was basically what BF3 would have been if pandemic studios hadn’t closed
@mhm357 ай бұрын
I had all three versions but I always felt like the physics and immersion of BF2 was missing from the subsequent releases. Something as simple as a grenade tossing you in the air or a lightsaber strike throwing you back on the ground never happened on the others. The lightsaber wielding heroes felt like they were waving through NPCs (which I guess is what we should expect lightsabers to do, but with no dismemberment in-game and the aforementioned physics missing, it felt shallow). But I still loved space to ground combat and *some* aspects of the customization (i.e. the Dark Trooper armor). Even that was half-baked because of putting random Clone Commander heads on ill-fitting torsos.

However when Order 66 arrived they managed to withstand their inibitor chips and refused to kill any Jedi when sent to the temple. During the heat of the battle they decided to disappear and went to the lower regions of Coruscant to hide for a while until they went to Tattooine where they lived as farmers. There they had some amazing battles with Tusken raiders and some of Jabba´s bounty hunters because of course they did, this is Star Wars, and they also played a very important role in Episode 4 when they refused to buy R2-D2 and C-3PO since they recognised the two droids immediatley. However knowing about the Lars family and Luke Skywalker they instead led the Jawas to their farm, telling them they were in need for new droids. So without those two heros the empire migt never have fallen and the galaxy would still live in terror.

I have to say the particle effects on the PS2 version adds something significant when it comes to atmosphere and aesthetics. It’s looks so much more timeless then the others.

Playing galactic conquest, landing on an enemy ship as a heavy trooper, and taking out there shields. I remember dying so I'd be more entertaining flying over there again rather than slug walk to ammo. So many memories

As someone born in 2004, I was a little late to the battlefront hype. I didn't have a pc, and my 360 was an earlier model without backwards compatibility. As such, playing battlefront was always a dream of mine as a star wars fan, but one that always seemed far away. Eventually, my family got a decent enough computer, on which I immediately got a steam account and downloaded BF2, circa 2016ish. Eventually around the same time, my og 360 red ringed, so I replaced it with a newer model of 360 (battlefront EA didnt look too enticing to me since it only had original trilogy content, so I just went for the cheaper 360 rather than an xbox one). This allowed me to have backwards compatibility with most of the og xbox games that I had inherited from my family. So I eventually picked up both original battlefronts for it, which me and my friends still play to this day. I also eventually got a PS4 around the time BF2 EA launched. TL;DR: I didnt get into battlefront until well into my teen years, even though I always wanted to. Also Battlefront really was the only influence on what gen console I played on.

The PC Menu took me by surprise when I booted it up for the first time: Rather than the faction logos with clips from the movies, the UI seemed tailor-made for a PC port with static blueprints of various machines from the Star Wars galaxy. My first experience with the game was as a kid on PS2, so seeing that was a bit of a shock. I own both Xbox and PC for Battlefront II classic, BTW.

I remember playing the ps2 version and all I can think of is how many times I threw a bomb and walked on top of it and watching the character go flying backwards and how often I would strike at anyone in my view when I played as a hero character whether they were on the enemy team or mine. fun fact: battlefront 3 was scrapped and all the content was migrated to psp and ds for elite squadron. the stuff we missed would essentially have just been the same differences between ps2 and psp versions of battlefront 2. so we did still get to experience battlefront 3 even if only a somewhat neutered and graphically inferior version of it. fun story mode too if you have yet to try it out
@4iss.225 ай бұрын
The PSP version of battlefront 2 has a fan made remastered version that doesnt just give back the missing levels but variations of each level and levels from the other battlefront PSP titles, restored voice lines, and still keeps the multiplayer fully usuable and playable (if you're able to connect your psp to the internet nowadays or using an emulator)

Polis Massa has a cool easter egg. If most characters go outside, without being in a vehicle, they slowly start dying from lack of air ...except the droid characters who dont need to breathe.

Played the Xbox version excessively as a kid. Eventually moved to PC when my dad bought a copy of it for it, and later bought my own PC copy of it through Steam which I've played for nearly a decade. Recently though I bought the digital version on Xbox so I can finally play with the DLC additions, and it's making the childhood part of myself that still lives on very happy

Ah good old Blockade ship: the original meatgrinder, grandfather of Op. Metro and Op. Locker. The endless rocket/mine/grenade spam... I also remember playing the Hero Assault and having to queue up AND RESPECT the line that formed in the round arena like part of the map where the 1x1 took place... The endless back and forth of the space battles... This was the game that introduced me to online multiplayer and to modding. I also remember not too fondly though of the PS2 version's obscenely long loading times, specially for Hero Assault
