Just wanted to say thank you for your tutorial. I purchased about 10 sonoff basic devices some 3 years ago with the intention of flashing them. It seemed way complicated years ago, but with tasmotizer and your simple plan, I'm going to try it out. Thanks so much.

I found that the best way to connect the serial/usb device’s four jumper wires without soldering was to simply plug through the sonoff board to a project board - just make sure to use separate rows (unconnected) rather than separate columns (connected). This holds the jumper wires in place but ensures that they don’t touch each other. You don’t have to worry about disconnections while flashing Tasmota. Happy projects, everyone.

Its a nice software easy to use but this software broke my device flash. Problem is It doesn't allow the flash mode to be selected. ESP8266 uses DIO while the newer ESP8285 uses DOUT.. Flashing with incorrect mode will do irreparable damage.

thank you for the clear video. With this I flashed several Sonoff Basic. In the meantime I bought a number of Sonoff D1 Dimmers after I saw that a Module (# 74) already exists but it doesn't work at all ... can you help?

Sorry you're having trouble. I haven't used the D1, so I can't really suggest anything. There is a Tasmota Discord that you can use for support if you want to try that.

Thanks for video. Could you please explain how does the sonoff connect to the internet. I'm having a hard time cause my ip is changing all the time. I'm seeking to control it over the internet. Thanks in advance

The Tasmota firmware does not connect to a cloud service. It is meant for local control. If you want to control it away from home, you would need to use a dynamic DNS service and open a port, which is not recommended. Another option is to use something like Home Assistant, which has an app and cloud service ($5/month) that does not require you to open ports or know your public IP.

I keep getting and error, cannot open com 6, tried a different usb cable. It seems to recognize if I change to com 5 it automatically changes to com 6.
@G6TechnologyServices
@G6TechnologyServices 2 жыл бұрын
Did you get it working? The COM port changes when the adapter changes USB ports. Check Device Manager to see which is the correct COM port number.

@@G6TechnologyServices Yes, I got. I had to install window's drivers to get the usb adapter to work. The same one you suggested. Windows recognized that I plugged in a usb device, but when I checked device manager it had an error. It was finicky through out the install, but it works. Thanks for asking!

Hi Can i use DSD TECH USB to TTL Serial adapter with FTDI FT232RL Chip Compatible with Windows 10, 8, 7 and Mac OS X to connect my sonoff to pc instead of SparkFun Serial Basic Breakout - CH340G Development Tool

You don't have to use the SparkFun CH340G that I used. Just make sure that both VCC and signal are 3.3V.

Yes, Tasmota has a built-in schedule feature for standalone operation if you’re not using a home automation server to control it.

@G6TechnologyServices
@G6TechnologyServices 2 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could re-flash it when there is an update, but that would wipe out the settings and you would have to reconfigure it. You can also download the firmware from a computer with Internet access and put it on a local web server that the Sonoff devices can access and upgrade that way. tasmota.github.io/docs/Upgrading/
@G6TechnologyServices
@G6TechnologyServices 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, it looks like you can just upload the new firmware using the web interface. That would be the best method if they can't download from the OTA server.
@G6TechnologyServices
@G6TechnologyServices 2 жыл бұрын
Well, as I continue reading that page. You can upgrade with the serial adapter if you don't erase the flash first. Serial Upgrade Upgrade over the serial connection using serial-to-USB adapter. Upload the new version over serial using the same process as in Flashing but DO NOT erase flash. The new binary will overwrite the old one and keep your settings.

You can solder the pins if you want to, but it isn't absolutely necessary if you can keep enough pressure on them.

@G6TechnologyServices

The Sonoff Basic is designed to use AC power. You might be able to make it work, but I've never tried.
@JimVanderveen
@JimVanderveen 3 жыл бұрын
The circuit board is powered by mains voltage, so DC isn’t an option. But you could hook up a 120 VAC relay to the output of the Sonoff, and use the relay to switch a DC load.

I would recommend running directly on a Windows computer, but there are free virtualization programs for Mac if you want to try getting it to work. VMware Fusion Player is free for non-commercial use. my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=fusion-player-personal You can also use Oracle VirtualBox for free. www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
