My Grandpa was a teenager in the late 50s and early 60s. He says this is the most accurate depiction of teenage life during that time. Roadster racing, sock hops. It actually makes him cry
@TS-ev1bl3 жыл бұрын
This movie was filmed only ten years after its setting (filmed in '72, set in '62), which to us back then seemed like such a long time but it really wasn't. Now it'd be like making a movie set in 2010. Big deal. I guess some things changed in those ten years but a lot of things didn't. Teens still cruised in the '70s just like in the movie, hung out at burger joints and along the "strip" trying to see and be seen, went to dances and roller skating rinks, etc. In the mid '70s the soundtrack from this movie was very popular for cruising (on 8 track), so even though I wasn't a teen until the '70s the songs from this movie remind me of my teen years. With no Internet and only one phone line in the house that we weren't allowed to "tie up", if we wanted to talk to our friends we had to physically go hang out with them, preferably where there was no adult supervision. In fact, things didn't really change that much for teens until the early '00's with the Internet, social media, and cell phones.

@@32southpaw76 yeah... I guess the '50's seem great, but knowing me, I would probably want to go back to the '20's if I was around in the '50's... I guess that's how we as humans roll... I guess right now has to be as good as we can make it.

I saw this movie when I was 13 years old with my dad and my sister. I've often wondered whatever happened to the girl at 1:01 who was kissing her date. For some reason, she left me with an indelible mark that has lasted within me for some 47 years on. Amazing how just 2 seconds of film was burned into my mind and is still there somehow. I hope she has had a great life and has had children and hopefully she is now a grandmother as well. Does anyone else have a story like mine?

One of my favorite movies ever. Me and three of my friends from highschool saw this at the midnight owl show in St Louis back in 1973. We got off work from the restaurant we were working and rushed to the cinema. It was completely sold out except for 4 seats in the front row. It played there for over 50 weeks. What awesome night that was.

On this day in 1975 {March 15th} Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids performed "Good Times Rock and Roll" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was at #72 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the week before it had peaked at #41 {for 1 week} and it spent eight weeks on the Top 100 chart... Besides the above, the Boulder, Colorado sextet had two other Top 100 records, "Dancin' (On A Saturday Night)" {#93 in 1974} and "Did You Boogie" {with Wolfman Jack, # 29 in 1976}... They appeared as Herby and the Heartbeats in the 1973 movie 'American Graffiti' and performed a covered version Danny and the Juniors' "At The Hop", and exactly seventeen years earlier on March 15th, 1957 the original version was at #29 on the Top 100, eleven weeks earlier it had peak at #1 {for 7 weeks}...

Try as they might they were just a Poor Man's Version of Sha Na Na. So much History in this Song. It was originally called "Do The Bop" but Dick Clark of American Bandstand convinced them to change The Title, and the rest is History. It was also during that time that One Hit Wonders very common they sang it on American Bandstand during an Outside Location. Also, Flash Cadillac & The Continental Kids appeared on Happy Days and sang "Youngblood" originally done by The Coasters written by The Late Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller and they showed how "White" Artists covered Black Artists Music to sell it to a wider audience. Were it not for American Graffiti and The "Original" Broadway production of Grease Happy Days may not have had a second chance. In The UK alot of Boy Bands/Girl Groups "Cover" songs originally done by US Artists and the Children don't know who did the Original but The US Songwriters make "Bank" off of them.

Saw these guys in 1979 in Portland, OR. They rocked. But I don't think they were as good as Sha Na Na, if only because SNN had more guys and did more choreography as they sang. But both groups brought back great memories of an earlier, simpler time. Rock and roll is here to stay!!! In fact, after many remakes, Sha Na Na is still performing with a couple of the original players from the late 60's in their college days.
