Garage off the floor storage. Something I never thought I’d ever buy or use are chrome racks. Everything in my garage is off the floor. They can be purchased at many outlets Lowe’s, Menards, Amazon. The cost reasonable when compared to building wood shelves. Many sizes plus I put mine on casters for mobility. Just a suggestion.

This has probably been asked already. But have you considered some type of french drain along the back of your shop. It might help take some of the water coming off your yard. The gutter setup is definitely needed. And I think you can set it up to all drain to one end. I’ve done 60’ with one downspout. Not really advisable, but with it being the back of the barn, you could set the drop however you want. Good luck!

Hi Andrew, suggest you build a platform up about two feet off your hi spot from the shop, using concrete and brick or block. Then purchase a 2500 to 5000 litre tank that can receive your roof runoff with overflow mid and bottom spigot, to collect and gravity feed water to your property needs, including possibly potable filtered water for human consumption, incase 9f drought

As a 63-year old Texan that lives on the Gulf Coast, and loves watching lightning! Yes I may have a few screws loose! But I would probably have been on your porch watching the lightning! Been through a couple of hurricanes, but did not have a rain Gage . So the most rain that I seen, was on my brother's farm in Oklahoma. 7in in 45 minutes! We was at the barn working on tractor. It was lunchtime and we needed a big bolt, there was this little store about five miles from the barn that had sandwiches and he carry nuts and bolts and fix tires. Just a little country store. There was this one little cloud, that we watched from the store. Was not raining at the store. We live two miles off the main road, as we turn down our road. We passed the first Creek and it was full water, the second Creek the water was above the tires of a four-wheel drive pickup. Mind you that was over a bridge. As we got closer to the barn there was a guy in a Jeep pickup. He said the water got up to the head lights of his pickup. It took 3days, to fix the washouts terraces, and ruts in the field. To get ready for the peanuts. Y'all stay safe!

Flooding is so gross to deal with. You will probably have to do some more grading. Weather will probably be getting worse in the future. Our last farm was near a river and the back flooded. The barn flooded a few times up to our knees. This new property is graded very well towards a huge retention pond/cypress pond. It has a few other ponds it can overflow to if needed. We have a bunch of mature willows back there too, which I read can soak up 100 gal of H20 per day. They are not strong trees but they are nowhere near anything sensitive. Our house barn, shop etc. are high & dry.
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
I've got plans to do some more grading in from of our home as well.

We experienced the same here in Treasure Coast! But, not as bad as Central and North FL. Last year with the storm that rolled through made me reconsider the height of my house pad. I'm glad I went higher. I'm also doing more dirt work around the house to keep it as dry as possible. Having a lot of land is a challenge for sure keeping it dry. When we built the 2nd house pad in the rear of our property we did 150' x 150' build up with pond behind us. It's roughly 3' of build up. Prior to building the forever home, I'm going to build up even more land around the pad. Best of luck with your property .

It's been raining here for 4 days and they are saying it will be highly likely that another 6-7 days will be very rainy. I would think digging a 5-6 foot wide 1 foot deep channel around the shop and filling it with some of the rocks you are getting in might help keep the flooding away from it.

water is the relentless enemy. After living thru hurricane Sandy up here and some of that flooding and its side effects, I feel for anyone. Wow... Crazy. The water in your shop is a bummer. I hated to see that. I've seen the same thing several times with friends' shops... the fix has been large french drains filled with gravel. I've been outside most of the day getting all our grass cut because that weather system is heading our way, and we won't be able to mow the "low half" of the place for a couple weeks after 5 inches of rain. I was expecting 5 or 6 inches total the next week... not 5 inches in an hour or two. You must be up in the panhandle. Friends are telling me all about it.

I'm in the Big Bend area, we've been getting it just like west of us in the panhandle.

@cash5150 bro, I love that movie so much. Fav part is the dinner scene, where they start making animal noises going to get their freak on.

How close to the coast do you live? And how many acres do you have?
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
A little over 20 miles away. We have 50 acres.

@TKCL just wondered if you have Flood Insurance. I live within 10 miles of Galveston Bay & though it's not required, I purchase it every year. During Ike back in 2008, 4 family members had flood & windstorm damage. And don't even get me started on Insurance companies. You pay your premiums every month in good faith & they do everything they can to not cover some damage.

No I do not, there is 35ft of elevation change on our property and the house is close to the highest point. The water will naturally flow away from the house other than the low spot seen in front of it in this video. The water can't physically make it up to the house.

isnt that pretty close to your septic tank? Are you gonna catch Mike Morgan in gravel use? 🤣
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
Yes it is, but our soil drains extremely fast, no worries. I'll never be able to catch Mike on gravel, he has a small fortune in just rock.

Well, you're a little behind us here west of you. We' been getting bit since Tuesday, but yesterday we were getting 5 1/2" of rain and hour. And man the furbabies have been some kind of scared. I've actually had to go out into the rain and pick up tree limbs that are falling due to saturation. Power has went out multiple times over the past fews and yes, even the water went out yesterday. And I only live like a quarter mile from the tank. Anyways, I know what you're facing cause it's going west to east. Be safe, be aware, get rest when you can because there's lots to be done.Oh and Happy Father's Day. Here's a poem I wrote to share with you and Tiffany. Insert disclosure here: the following poem are the sole Copyrights and publishing works and property of Ronald Powell any reposting, copying, publishing, Misuse shall face penalties a forfeiture of profit to me and my estate without properly obtaining proper permission are subject under penalty of law. "The Father's Day" A note to you this special day of celebration, I stand in awe of of your display of affection. The heavens, earth and all there within you created for me! And yet still I get too busy & blinded with my surroundings to see. You supply me water, wealth, food and shelter to lay my head at night. I shake, stumble, fall, wrestle with doubt, fear and unbelief - I know that's not too bright. Your strong, wise, compassionate, stable & true, and some how I always make a mess of things an make you feel blue. Somehow, you turn things around and add to my strength. Truly the measure of your love is without height, depth, width or length. Though I don't say it loud or often enough - You're a real Winner! Without your thoughtfulness and the sacrifice of your son - I'd be just a sinner. So, humor me as I express in this feeble way, a token of my love Father God - a joyous, Happy Fathers Day!
