Fantastic !! What WB do you set in camera when doing this ?
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
I set it manually for slightly warmer than the scene calls for :) was likely around 6000k here

You need the flash to stand a lot higher to make it look real. Als a photographer how uses that trick a lot it can tell something is really of a the pictures you show around 3 minutes Edit: at 4:54 the you can really see what I mean. The "sun" is coming out of the trees. No natural light would hit there. It just looks off. You can easily make it better with putting the flash higher.
@VanessaJoy3 жыл бұрын
not necessarily, when the sun is truly setting it gets to horizon-line/waist level. Now depending on what you have in the background it'll look slightly off if you have it shown below the horizon line like that one spot does, and ultimately it's just a matter of raising it slightly, but it doesn't need to be "a lot higher" to be effective. Of course, it could be your preference, and that's fine.
@verenhimoinen3 жыл бұрын
@@VanessaJoy I'm sorry but the sun would never hit the away it does in some of the photos. Sadly my english is not good enough to explain it. But the sun would never hit through a "wall of trees". If you can't see the sky through it, than the sun would also not be visible... Maybe you understand what I'm trying to say
@MrMolotov693 жыл бұрын
You are right it definitely needs to be higher and angled down. It general ambience of the photos is also too bright and flat for it to look like golden hour.

i think if the flash is closer like 6 ft away behind the subject then you will have a good golden hour. Or have a stronger flash far away behind the subject such a way that it hides behind the subjects head then it will give you a perfect golden hour as well.

Love it! I've been using this technique for many years, I started with two flash guns to get enough power. But now that that there are battery powered monolights it's definitely a lot easier to do! Great video and tip for those who've never tried it, Thanks for sharing it !
@VanessaJoy4 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely easier with a higher power strobe :)

This is a very good trick. Good you've made a video! I've been using it since shot counts have gone up and there is no time for waiting out clouds. The only trouble is, that sometimes the ambient light is too strong and the flash has to be used on half or full power. Faster sync speeds would help, but leaf sutter lenses are too slow to get blury backgrounds. So maybe the R1 with the global shutter will solve the problem!?

how does backlighting a shot with ttl work? i figure your camera is going to meter your subject dark, will amp up for flash, and make your subject even darker. no?
@VanessaJoy3 жыл бұрын
It does potentially and depending on the system. I use ttl just to start off the power setting and then switch to manual so I ultimately control it :)

@@VanessaJoy oh thats super clever! It takes me so long to just ball park my flash settings. Is there anyway to see what flash power ttl used.
