Prohibits assistance to any group or organization that is engaged in military cooperation with the Hussein regime. Authorizes appropriations. Directs the President to designate: (1) one or more Iraqi democratic opposition organizations that meet specified criteria as eligible to receive assistance under this Act; and (2) additional such organizations which satisfy the President's criteria. Urges the President to call upon the United Nations to establish an international criminal tribunal for the purpose of indicting, prosecuting, and imprisoning Saddam Hussein and other Iraqi officials who are responsible for crimes against humanity, genocide, and other criminal violations of international law. Expresses the sense of the Congress that once the Saddam Hussein regime is removed from power in Iraq, the United States should support Iraq's transition to democracy by providing humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people and democracy transition assistance to Iraqi parties and movements with democratic goals, including convening Iraq's foreign creditors to develop a multilateral response to the foreign debt incurred by the Hussein regime.

It is sad to say, but Bernie's assessment of the consequences of the War in Iraq were quite accurate. He had 5 major reservations. 1. How many US troops and Iraqi Civilians would die? Answer: 4,425 US Service Members KIA, in addition to over 30,000 non-fatal casualties. Estimates of Iraqi civilians deaths, not believed to be "enemy combatants" vary widely from a low of approximately 100,000 to possibly close to a million, though a comprehensive totals will never be established. 2. What the precident of a unilateral invasion would do to international law. Answer: It is difficult to judge how current international conflicts would be playing out absent the invasion of Iraq. We do know a few things for certain. Highest ranking persons in the Bush Administration, including Defense Sec. Donald Rumsfeld, Vice-President Dick Cheney, and President George W. Bush himself, have been charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity relating to the intentional deceptions and lies propagated in lead up to the War, the Invasion itself, and the use of torture as an interrogation technique, use of which was approved by the President himself. Also, while multi-lateral sanctions against Russia, following their unilateral invasion of the Ukraine in Crimea, have been moderately effective, US opposition to the annexation has been criticized by Russian President Putin, and the limited support we have given the national government in Kiev has been ineffective in changing the dynamics of the conflict. Though the Iraq War can not conclusively be tied to Russia's actions, it can be said that it has weakened our ability to be a credible voice of opposition on the world stage. 3. Could invasion lead to weakening of the effectiveness of the intentional fight against terrorism? (I will leave my views out of this). Answer: It can not be denied that invading Iraq did irreparable harm to the coalition that was tasked with quelling the expansion of radical extremism, whether it be Islamic or other. Before the Iraq War Al Qaeda presence in Iraq was non-existent, and there is no proof Saddam Hussein was in any way funding the organization. The same cannot be said for Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, but I digress. The conflict has been used as a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda and other extremist groups, and splinter cells have formed in Yemen, Sudan, and Syria, where they had not previously existed. In addition to giving fodder to these groups, it caused intense division and vitriolic bitterness among coalition governments, including that of France, Germany, Australia, and Finland just as examples. Many nations felt coerced to support US involvement in Iraq, which caused some to remove their support from the original coalition force, putting more burden on US troops and supplies. 4. How much would invasion and occupation cost in $? Answer: It is hard to say precisely how much the Iraq War has cost because of the inability to audit the DoD. For instance, we know in fiscal year 1998-99, when we were not fighting two wars, the DoD was unable to account for $2.3 Trillion in expenditures. On Paper the cost to taxpayers has been $1.7 Trillion with an additional half trillion owed in veterans benefits before the end of this decade, and an additional $3-4 Trillion long term. This is what we know for certain, but estimates have the real cost at over $3 trillion, not including back end expenditures. 5. What unintended consequences may stem from the overthrow of Saddam Hussein? Answer: Boy isn't this question relevant today. The stability of the entire region, from Libya to Egypt, to Yemen, to Syria, and of course Iraq itself has crumbled in the years following the war, and our subsequent withdrawal. Arab Spring, was initiated by a number of factors, including Western presence in the region, the pro-US governments of Mubarak in Egypt, and Assad in Syria. The civil wars caused by these uprisings have successfully overthrown 2 government's and has been a major factor in the situation in Syria. What is little reported by Western Media is that the structural leadership of the fundamentalist fledgling nation state ISIS were senior members and loyal soldiers in the Iraqi Republic Army under Saddam Hussein. When we took Baghdad, causing Saddam to flee, the high ranking leaders of the Iraq military were summarily dismissed, and new US backed advisors and military leadership was installed. Some of the dismissed top brass helped constitute Al Qaeda in Iraq, others fled to neighboring countries, and still others quietly bid their time. In 2011, when the US withdrew the remaining combat units from the area, the inept provisional Iraqi Government was in no position to quell the numerous splinter groups that coalesced around what we now know as ISIS. The destabilizing effect of Arab Spring, coupled with the unique brashness and barbaric nature of the blooming Islamic State, who's intent is two fold: 1. to create a fundementalist Islamic calaphate from Persia Gulf to Mediterranean, overthrowing "Moderate" government's across the region, especially Saudi Arabia, the birth place of Islam, which they feel is desecrated by US military presence, especially free women, religious minorities, and homosexuals, and Israel, which they see as the most inferior of inferior people's, who must not just be overthrown, but exterminate. They don't care about the Palestinian struggle, as they will offer a place in the Calaphate to those who choose to join, while the rest are in league with western forces, and are therefore expendable. They are guided by the most literal, and pervasive interpretation of the Koran, whicv includes permission and encouragement of slavery, rape, destruction of history, and indiscriminate murder. 2. They want to instill fear in western nations by bringing the war to them, as we so clearly and horrifically saw in Paris Friday evening. Their end goal is either a full scale Jihad of a United Islamic State versus the full Western force, ending in an Armageddon, or the complete and permanent removam of western forces from Islamic lands, which they will push to explain until a full war is inevitable. The "unintended consequences" of the Iraq war couldn't be more serious. Bernie had the forethought to see this outcome, while others either saw and ignored, or were too short sighted to grasp the potential ramifications. I will trust the person who was right the first time to be right the next time, And that is why, on foreign policy, Bernie Sanders is the best candidate for America.

It gives the government absolute control over all aspects of ones life. Socialism doesn’t make anyone equally prosperous. It makes everyone EQUALLY POOR. Go read a book on capitalism.

@Matt S Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan said Thursday that, years into the United States' fight against the Islamic State, the terrorist group's reach and power have not been diminished and that it has even more fighters than al-Qaeda had at its height. Speaking to the Senate Intelligence Committee, Brennan said, "Unfortunately, despite all our progress against ISIL on the battlefield and in the financial realm, our efforts have not reduced the group's terrorism capability and global reach. The resources needed for terrorism are very modest, and the group would have to suffer even heavier losses of territory, manpower, and money for its terrorist capacity to decline significantly." He also projected that it "will intensify its global terror campaign to maintain its dominance of the global terrorism agenda."

@@ChrisIsntLit if every single one of Bernies beliefs were put in place the United States would still be to the right of Canada in terms of policy. His version of Democratic Socialism is so mild that it basically just means he wants the US to join the rest of the developed world that already has these systems in place. Everywhere from Sweden, Norway, Germany, Canada, UK, Australia, Netherlands, France, Japan and South Korea would be considered socialist by your definition and yet all are successful countries enjoying higher standards of living in every term. Even Switzerland, a country so conservative that women gained the right to vote in the 70s, has a national healthcare system, though more akin to the public option. The United states is so far to the right of the entire developed world that it finds itself policy-wise among such Exalted Powers as Turkey, Indonesia, Myanmar and India. To say that socialism fails is to ignore the fact that most of the developed world is closer to socialism than to the current united states, being built post-WW2 on the foundations of what is called Social Democracy, which is indeed half a step shy. In a social democracy context it is not truly Liberals and Conservstives fight, it is Liberals and Socialists who argue over the best path, with true conservatism having died out in Europe in the mid 40s thanks to a certain mustached German.

It’s reasons why this that I love Bernie Sanders because he is a man with the most integrity who has been in Washington. When our political system for has failed us time after time Bernie was always there for us when we needed him even when he took the unpopular position at the time when he was the only one who believed it. His courage is unrivaled for a politician that’s reminiscent of FDR. We have to fight for this man and make sure he gets the nomination so he can be our president that this country needs who could actually shift our system in the direction it needs to go. Our futures are depending on this because we all need to rise up and draw the line that this country isn’t just for the rich and all of us who work hard everyday will get the help we need. America has been in decay ever since neoliberalism has infected our system that has destroyed so many lives. It’s time for us to have a country where we can believe in the future and take on the greatest threats to us all. Bernie Sanders is truly the greatest political figure of our life time who has inspired so many people to make a difference that matters and is worth fighting for.

If we're keeping it real though, he had every opportunity to bring up America's involvement in the Saudi-led coalition's war crimes in Yemen and make it a campaign issue while he was running for president from 2015-16 and the war in Yemen was concurrently escalating, but he didn't. Now, don't get wrong, I think he deserves enormous credit for helping to make the Yemeni Civil War a more mainstream issue in American politics, and I think the initiative he did ultimately take on Yemen is a crucial reason why he's superior to the other Democratic presidential candidates, but the truth is that he waited until Ro Khanna encouraged him to do so in early 2018, by which time, 10s of 1000s of Yemenis were either killed directly in the war, or as a result of the famine and cholera outbreak perpetrated by the warring parties.
