MS-DOS had two releases. Floppy version in 1992 which had intro and cut-scenes made with polygons like other versions. In this video is a CD version from 1995. The only difference is with new rendered cut-scenes, that are worse than floppy original. Even though it's on CD it doesn't even have CD-Audio music like Sega CD had.

Game good! Верно, MS-DOS версия имела другие кат-сцены. Играл в 90-е и всегда в версию 1992 года. Я не знал, что так много версий выло. Перевёл с русского на английский переводчиком. RUS. Original russian. That's right, the MS-DOS version had different cut scenes. Played in the 90s and always the 1992 version. I didn't know there were so many versions. Translated from Russian into English by a translator. ENG.

It did indeed! I recall seeing those cut-scenes, as a friend of mine had the CD-Rom version and I had the Amiga version. The cut scenes reminded me of that 'Blade Runner' point-and-click game that came out in the mid-to-late 90's...the one where each time you played it through, different characters changed from possibly being human to replicant, and you needed to be canny and wise in your line of questioning. I'd really love another game with that depth of choice. I even believed 'L.A Noire' was going to follow a similar sort of style of interrogation, with different outcomes each play-through, but alas it wasn't to be.

No. Floppy version was WAY worse, it makes no sense to even compare with CD version. And CD version has better audio. You're delusional

2:28 As a teen in the '90s who had both the Genesis and Sega CD versions of Flashback, I'd always wanted to hear a full-length version of THAT tune put to a full-length, uninterrupted version of the intro (polygonal graphics preferred).
@daishi55713 жыл бұрын
The FMV intro should have been awesome! but someone thought it was a good idea to repeatedly interrupt the action with a title plate. All versions look very close, despite the hardware differences.
@youuuuuuuuuuutube3 жыл бұрын
FMV is horrible, has aged very badly over the years. The original polygonal look still looks great today.
@daishi55713 жыл бұрын
@@youuuuuuuuuuutube I was referring to it as time appropriate, not modern. Artistic impression is something that ages differently from the art. Pixel art was for many years pushed to be realistic and higher definition but now many games are going back to those roots. It's not because they cant do realistic, but because they can add there own artistic vision without the rules imposed. For me I like choice 🙂

I grew up with an Amiga, so i biasedly pick that version as *my* personal preference. I've played the Genesis/Mega Drive, SNES, PC and XBox Game Pass versions, and while i was happily impressed with the choice between old school and redux sounds on the XBox version, in my heart of hearts I'll always prefer the Amiga.

My first version of this was the original release on the Megadrive. It's fantastic that it went on to be developed for so many formats. There is a Dreamcast version available for DC fans now. A sequel had begun on GBA. Very early footage is on KZbin. I didn't get on with Fade To Black on PS1 ( would like to go back to it one day ). I'd also like to try the much ridiculed remake. Microids is now developing a sequel. Fingers crossed

the ubisoft remake is terrible. but atleast it came with the original. lol. the 25th anniversary edition on gog is great though. i couldnt get on with fade to black either. they should have waited till 3d controls matured a bit. but i cant wait for the microids sequel either

@@robsmall6466everybody knows what Paul Cuisset (which was a notorious Atari ST fan) said but this game exploit much more the Amiga specificities than the Megadrive one. For an MD original game you could have at least some smooth scrolls, parallaxes or sprites mayhem. The very fact that this game is on par on the Amiga,, or maybe better, prove that it was obviously calibrated for the Amiga first. That doesn't means they didn't made it to release it on the Megadrive at first thought. And memory can get fuzzy with time. In old previews, Paul Cuisset was saying that the Amiga version will be the superior one because they were limited by MD cardridge size....

I know this port is quite inferior and not as good compared to the others. But if we see it as a game dedicated to the CD-I, it ends up being a pretty decent game for this system despite not having a good catalog of games.

Anyone reading this today, play the mega CD version with the CGI cutscenes checkout the new washington map that the dude from Asia gives you. you'll notice when it hits America, it mentions 'Restricted area 01' and when it hits africa it mentions 'town hall' all other areas are accessible. perhaps RA01 and The hall were meant to be other areas? perhaps during the mission phase?

RA01 in America is where you find the cop after you go to the bar. Africa has RA 02, which is one of the missions you're hired to do.

I started on Sega Megadrive (genesis to you US people), and enjoyed it. For some bizarre reason, UK never had the Mega CD version despite the console successfully launching here. I now play the CD version as it is my favourite. As others have said, the anniversary edition missed a few ticks. it could have had a detail setting which toggled between amiga/dos, megadrive/cd/snes, and later polished mac/anniversary detail along with cutscene selection from CGI, megadrive/snes or Amiga (seemed to have extra cutscenes?). Still a superbly fantastic game a true GEM. Also ahead of its time for both story and gameplay.

I have Mac/PC floppy and cd versions and also the Amiga version. I like the most Mac version because it has lot better graphics than PC and Amiga and it seems that it has the best graphics of all formats. It is the only version that you can see the eyes of the hero. I was playing the first level on Mac and PC, the one monitor next to the other, VGA graphics were poor next to Mac's graphics but Mac version is a late release.
@youuuuuuuuuuutube3 жыл бұрын
Best version seems to be that FM Towns, the intro is longer and using the same original style as on Amiga. FMVs look horrible (ex: MS-DOS, Sega CD), wow. Maybe at the time it was the thing, but today it just looks bad.
@daishi55713 жыл бұрын
FM Towns version is decent and I don't know if it's the emulation, but it seem the music is a bit too laid back. The Archimedes version has an extended intro and a beat that I feel would be more inline with a frantic escape. The Archimedes version shown in this video has some audio issues I don't remember having when I owned one. Certainly better than the FMV versions.

uugh those fmv are nasty.. Interesting how the ones that try to make the graphics better (mac w/lazily redone higher resolution assets, and 25th anniversary's awful smoothing - i hope you can turn that off?) are the ones that look worst by far.
@CobraBlade2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mixel! Funny a common interest would see us both come across this video. Hope you are well. I actually really liked these FMVs, especially back then, although it’s lost a bit when quickly switching back and forth between versions, the CD audio is what made it really special on the Mega-CD, the FMV was fully voiced and the levels themselves had great atmospheric music too. The title screen itself also had a rotating 3D model of Conrad with a really great rendition of the title theme. It’s all kinda lost today, but back then it was a great experience.

Loved the Mega-CD version, especially the CD audio. Still prefer the FMV over the in-game cut scenes, but after watching this I can see the Mac version was the best visually in game. Disappointing that the anniversary edition of today can’t complete visually with the Mac version… seriously what the heck!? Wish the anniversary version also had an option to chose between cutscene styles.
@Ttox2293 ай бұрын
I feel like the FMV cinematics in the CD versions are a bit underrated. I know for many the change wasn't good, but it better explained the context of the cutscenes. And the best thing of all is the music they contain, although it's less, it extends it in a better way. Although in my opinion, the best thing about the CD soundtrack was the title screen and the Phillip Howard Clark Diary, they are incredibly good and surpass the original.
