A lot of people are so focused on what they think Superman should be that they ignore what the neck-snapping scene was actually supposed to mean. The entire movie was set up telling how this alien is rejected at every moment of his life and feels like he doesn't belong, no matter how hard he tries to help people. Then, when he actually finds his own people, he is forced to choose between them or the humans, who have done nothing but push him around. Miraculously, he chooses to protect the humans, but at the cost of the Kryptonians' lives. With all the Kryptonians sucked to the Phantom Zone, Zodd is literally the last one of his kind, and yet again, Superman chooses to protect the humans. The neck-snapping is jarring and it's easy for us to judge Kal based on our preconceptions of what Superman is supposed to be. But if you just take the scene at face value, solely in the context of the movie, you can see why this scene was tragic. Superman screaming, "DON'T DO THIS! STOP! STOP!!" is not a forceful command. He's pleading with Zodd to stop because the last thing Kal-el wants is to kill the only other Kryptonian. People criticize the scream at the end too for being over-dramatic, but if you look at it this way, that scream makes perfect sense. He had to kill the last of his kind for people who never loved him all because of what, morality? That's a tough pill to swallow even for someone who is bulletproof and can fly.

syd bohne Bro when you said “Kal has no true home” 😓 😞 Wow. This was awesome to read. Brought up a lot of things that I didn’t think about. One of the reasons I love Spiderman 2 ( my favorite superhero movie), is the fact that he’s all alone. He gets fired from his job, slipping up in school, his aunt finds out Peter actually killed his uncle, Mary Jane hates him. He literally gives up being Spiderman to have a real life. Then he realizes he has to be Spiderman, no matter the sacrifice. Kal is actually in a worse situation, like you stated. People of earth hate him and want to control him, and the last of his true people, who he’s been searching for his whole life, want to destroy him. It’s heartbreaking. Amazing movie. Amazing analysis Syd 👏🏼

That's exactly the reason I don't like this movie. Zod's death scene would have been perfect if Superman was actively trying to save people which makes his internal conflict better. Zod represents what people think of Superman, but he should be trying to prove that such omnipotence can be used for good. Zod being killed would be what seals it, but instead he fucks around killing thousands of people for the sake of the fight and the random family just seems like the most basic of tools for tension. immortal gods punching each other, killing innocents and then Superman saves a random family because he good and the other baddie.

His trying to Stop Zod you idiot but Zod is too powerful to be stop by just punching he even pushed him in space you blind but Zod still push him into the city and the last part you expect Zod to just stop killing people by what you call justice he made a great decision kill Zod to stop this madness or restrain him by fighting you can see in the movie it's so obvious omy god Zod wanted to kill those people by his heat vision and superman was forced to kill him to stop his madness he can't just knock him up coz he always going up and continue his madness. Even hulk vs abomination there are lots of casualties on Avengers age of ultron there are lots of casualties on Sokovia. You always Blame superman for the destruction and deaths and yet you didn't even have the brain to recognize the true villain which is Zod who cause it all, he is the one destroying the buildings killing the people and you expect superman to just save or carry people while zod is aggressively punching him imagine kid he is carrying a person with him and Zod is punching him! It is tragic but it also proves an old addage that some warriors are so set in their ways they cannot see the greater good. Kryptonians were like humans once that is why Jor El chose Earth. Ahead of it's time.
@zyxyx67544 жыл бұрын
Because it has so many ridiculously stupid plot points. 1. the whole kryptonian act is so convoluted and silly. pregnancy is banned yet a famous scientist manages to hide his wife for the whole pregnancy? super duper skull with genetic code and it's just floating in some watery cavern? superman's mother peacefully waits for her death and is artfully consumed by ash and fire. 2. Zod is shot out to space as punishment... like what? is that standard procedure? is space full of frozen criminally condemned kryptonians? 3. superman isn't allowed to save his father. An old man got in, had the time to signal to clark not to come and then peacefully wait for his death and is artfully consumed by dust and wind. Clark could have walked in and got him out without ever revealing any super powers. (edit: and the fact that this guy who knows he has an invulnerable adoptive son, goes in regardless. If he thought he was going to be fine, then there is exactly 0 reason to not have clark do it because there's no way clark'd reveal any powers if old man kent could do it with his old human body). 4. All kryptonian outposts die out because krypton exploded...? so why would making another outpost on earth change anything, they literally say in the movie the outposts need krypton. They even took the terraforming machines from a dead planet that like earth, would fail without krypton for some reason. so on and so forth. It's visually engaging, but it's woefully lacking in substance and is full of contradictions. It's not a bad movie, but what I can't stand is the insanity of MoS/BvS/watchmen fans that feel compelled to strawman people who dislike those movies and praise things that are incredibly mundane. Simply put, MoS rings hollow and most people notice that. Putting jesus imagery and edgy lines loved by angsty teens makes a masterpiece not.

Kal El genuinely did not want to kill Zod. Dru Zod and Jor El were childhood friends and always dreamed of how to save Krypton. But unlike Jor El, Dru Zod was born and bred foremost a warrior. Jor El being part of the Thinking Guild (the greatest of the Guild) he sought a cure and peaceful solution to Krypton's destruction. He achieved the cure. Kal El was natural born for a reason. That was the cure for the Kryptonians being tied to Krypton and unable to leave it. But Dru Zod was unconvinced and accused Jor El of heresy. He formed the Sword of Rao after the Kryptonian Sun God Rao and attempted an overthrow, but was defeated by both Jor El and the Sapphire Guard. Thus leading to the events in the movie and the battle on Earth.

The Kryptonians are his equals in strength, speed, and powers; going up against them is not like stopping a robbery or rescuing somebody falling from a tall building. He wanted to die a warriors death in the end I guess since the thing he was literally created to protect was gone now and any possibility with it, he just didn't have any purpose. That's why he was going on an animalistic rampage throughout the whole fight. I guess deep down he himself pushed superman to just end his meaningless life at that point. Meaningless cause again the thing he was created to protect is never coming back and.....well that's just kinda his whole purpose in life.

0:30 you know, it’s quite fascinating. This one scene where Superman is punching Zod in the air has become so iconic. I say that because Injustice 2, Supergirl, Sonic 3, etc has imitated this scene. The main issue with this fight is not them leveling the city. It’s Superman being apathetic to the people in danger while it’s being leveled. Every portrayal of Superman would have him saving people left and right while also fighting Zod. That is a pretty large over sight here. All they needed was him saving a few people while the buildings crumbled and it would have been a perfect fight. But they needed to set up B vS and if Superman had been saving people then Batman wouldn’t have hated him as much.
@omegashinobi3 жыл бұрын
Do you really think Superman would have been able to save anyone in this fight if he let himself get distracted? Odds are he would just get the civilians killed in the crossfire, or Zod would kill them out of spite in the middle of the battle.

I love this portrayal of Zod as a product of the Kryptonian genetic and social engineering. He was created to be a perfect warrior, with the mentality and skillset perfectly suited for that role, and that role alone. He had no doubts about his purpose. He had no reservations about commiting genocide, if it meant the survival of his people. Kal-El had lived on Earth his whole life, and still Zod was able to match him in a fight. He was physically and mentally superior as a warrior, he managed to overcome the sensoric overload and he mastered the ability to fly in a matter of mere hours. This is how you write a believably menacing character who can be a serious challenge to the hero, and still can justifiably lose the fight.

@Dexter'sstepsister On one hand you have Kal-El, who was a regular Kryptonian man with no special genetics or training. But he has lived his whole life on Earth, adapting to yellow sun's radiation and the resulting superhuman abilities. On the other hand you have Zod, who was specifically bred and trained to be a super soldier, but he only had a couple of hours to adapt, to figure out flight, heat vision etc. Had he lived on Earth as long as Kal-El, he would have won with little effort. The thing that I'm always drawn to in this scene is not that Kal-el kills Zod..it's that Zod forces him to do it. Zod is the pinacle of what Kryptonian society created, a soldier raised to be a soldier from birth. He sees the futility of the fight, even if he wins there's no future for the Kryptonian race and therefore no future for him, but he can not stop, he can not surrender..so he puts Kal-el into an impossible situation, he forces Kal-el to kill him in combat.
