Yes. MK matches are more similar to something like capoeira than a realistic martial arts fight. Even in MK1, a basic moving jump is a huge flip through the air. Each game match is theatrical and energetic. They just translated this to the screen. The most “realistic” fight out of all of the MK movies is the Sonya v. Kano fight in the 1995 movie. It’s really the only fight that isn’t fantastical and elaborately choreographed. It’s more grounded and it feels more like two people actually trying to kill each other.

What's truly interesting is that the motion soundtrack album performed better than the movie, I remember buying the CD at Music World here in Toronto and it was selling each day; I had to keep going back to get a copy. The movie... I don't know, but the fight scenes and music were more structured than the script itself.
