I get that killing Johnny Cage both angered and saddened many people, but can we all take a moment to remember the fact that he charged at Shao Kahn to save Sonya Blade, knowing he would surely die. That takes a lot of courage to do that, and given his reputation before the Tournament, that was the most selfless act to do: Losing your life to save the lives of those you love.

I mean, yes, if done right, it could have been a really powerful and sentimental scene. But clearly, for some reason, the writers of this movie didn't want to make a great ending for Johnny Cage, they just wanted to get rid of him for some reason. Had he died in the final Mortal Kombar scene and then have Sonya take revenge would have been better but they would have to rewrite the entire movie to fit Johnny in it.

If you saw this movie in 1997 there's no way you did not know Cage was going to be killed early on. All the promotional material made it clear that Cage would not be in this film. Also if you were a fan of the Mortal Kombat games you could tell the movie would be based on Ultimate MK3 (where Cage is also dead) by watching all the promo material at the time. Any kid who watched this film at that time enjoyed.

It's basically an R rated version of power rangers but still just as bad. Keep in mind though, I'm talking specifically about this movie and not the mortal kombat franchise as a whole.
