But when the world does nothing but hurt a man for as long as he can remember, how can he be expected to do anything but want to hurt it back? The movie brought a lot of parallels to Frankenstein for me. The Creature wasn't a threat until his environment convinced him that the only way he could assert any sort of control over his surroundings was to lash out and hurt others just like he had been hurt, much like Arthur himself. Just for the record, the three Wayne employees he killed WERE awful pieces of shit. Murray may not have deserved a full on execution, but he wasn't a nice guy either. Joker's not wrong when he says people are awful, but that's partly because he had the misfortune of being surrounded by shitty people, Gary and Arthur's neighbor being the exceptions.

What the joker is highlighting the breakdown of the traditional values in the west. The joker is as creation of the hedonistic selfish culture that is overtaking the west. All throughout the movie Arthur is failed again and again, hoodlums beat him up, thugs in suits do so as well, government shuts down his treatment and he has no family or support system to turn to. All through the movie no one helps him, people on the street walk by as he is beaten, his "friend" at work gets him fired because he is "wierd", and his family situation is all kinds of mess up................ the end might have been avoided if anyone or thing had actually provided support, instead they do nothing and eventually Arthur snaps completely.

Joaqin's portrayal of Joker in this movie and particularly in this scene are just masterful! Joker's body language throughout this scene is a great indicator of what mental state he is in before and after the murder. That nervous foot tapping right after he shots Murray followed by the maniacal laughter and placing one more bullet into Murray's lifeless body, the indecisive toss of the gun, the goofy weird little dance and facing the camera at the end, perfectly depicts his irreversible descend into the madness.

Nothing makes you look better in the public eye than looking tough against criminals. especially since you'd have security guards to take the guy away if he started attacking you, which is more publicity as you'd be able to talk about how you got attacked on T.V. his only mistake was having too much confidence in his clearly inept guards. If Author didn't have the gun then this would have gone much differently. IE him getting taken away.

Honestly in real life there’s no way this would have happened. In reality they would have immediately stopped recording the show right after he confessed to murder and called security or something. The fact that Murray and the rest of the show hosts continued to record him after confessing to murder is probably the most unrealistic thing in this movie.
