It's funny reading your comment because I was just sitting here thinking about how neat the Riddler's lair looked. In the wide shot, you can tell the room is circular. Looks like it could just be a dressed sound stage. As I appreciated it, I was thinking about how people have dismissed the 90s batman movies as hokey... but I mean... aren't comics hokey by nature? We're watching colorful costume clad characters fighting clowns and robots and aliens etc. As an adult, I am PROUD that these were the comics movies we had as kids. If not the nostalgia, you can certainly appreciate how much of a living comic book they really were. Makes me embarrassed that sometimes in my teens and younger life I went along with jokes about "how bad the 90s batman movies were". I really do appreciate them.

Can't speak about the rest, but I agree about his voice. It definitely is the best Live Action voice we've had. Let's hope "The Batman" by Matt Reeves will feature an actor that can pull off the Kevin Conroy-esque voice along with the typical Batman looks. I get the idea behind the voice changer and raspy voice in the DCEU and TDK but it just doesn't come close to Kevin Conroy's Batman.

Honestly, I've always though this movie was better than we give it credit for. I mean, yeah, it's pretty jarring to see such a campy and over-the-top movie under the Batman brand, but once you get past that, it's actually really enjoyable. Besides, can we also just take a moment to praise the movie's writers for - in the process of coming up with their version of The Riddler - essentially predicting Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and Big Data as a whole more or less 20 yrs before it happened?

For people saying Jim Carrey was playing the role as if it were the Joker: The Riddler and the Joker have completely different motivations. The Riddler's main aim is to show off to everyone just how smart he is - or how smart he THINKS he is - which also means that this is all a desperate and over-the-top cry for attention. Frank Gorshin nailed all of that in the '60s, and Jim Carrey did a good job of it here.

The Batarang is an acoustic Batarang and he has to lock it onto the target to make sure it doesn't miss. The clue is in the riddle itself. Bats use acoustic sound detection in order to "see" their prey in pitch black darkness. The Batarang was designed to lock onto targets using their sounds.

This movie had so much potential. Bruce’s struggle to be both Batman and Bruce Wayne is represented with both villains here. Harvey is also struggling with Duel personalities could’ve tied with him so well, and riddlers part was that in order to beat his mind and his schemes that he needed to be at peace with himself. Of one mind. They made it too goofy but it’s still fun to watch.

Jim Carey's goofiness was alright. If they removed the neon colors on Two-Face and Jones just be a more straightforward serious evil character and kept the amnesia arc for batman (still cut the animatronic man bat though), it would have been the best Batman movie of the original era, even surpassing Tim Burton's films.

The irony in this is that Tommy lee jones HATED jim carrey and his performance.
Jim Carrey told the story back when Norm MacDonald (may he RIP) had his talk show and said TLJ is an actor that he always had a great admiration for and still does to this day but that he approached him in a very friendly manner and TLJ didn’t hold back on letting Jim know just how much he despised him. I think it was just Jones. Carrey at least from what I’ve read tried to be a good sport about it but we’ll never really know. At least he got along well enough with Will Smith for the MIB trilogy and Jones speaks of him in high spirits

By mentioning he had a riddle for the Riddler, Batman was able to buy time for both Dr. Chase and Robin, as well as set up his means to destroy the "Brain Wave Collector". The trick with his visor made Riddler believe the Batarang was meant for him, when it went for the machine. To top it all off, Batman managed to save BOTH hostages, thwarting Riddler's death trap.
