This is actually a very interesting concept. The pressure inside the flashlight is pushing the black rubber thing against the tube. Once you release a bit of pressure, that rubber thing will move toward the tire valve, therefore letting the rest of the air escape through the barrel and propelling the BB at a amazing speed. *flies away*

Its the robber stopper that lets this work. He fills the area between the stopper and the bottom of the screwed on seal with air pressure. When he releases the pressure (which is quite slowly), the rubber stopper drops with said pressure, that allows the air to escape with a crazy force. It's easy to make one, just try it, its fun :D

It works. The piston divides the chamber in two. When pressurising, the piston seals the barrel but enough air leaks past to pressurise the whole flashlight. When the pin on the valve is pressed, the air blasts out of that chamber thru the valve. This allows the pressure in the rest of the flashlight to push the piston back, and that lets the major pressure out the barrel, forcing the pellet out at high speed. I found the piston tightness is critical, but it does indeed work.

am i missing something. the rubber stopper stops the air from going into the barrel but when you depress the pin it is not transferring the air to the bb but simply releasing the 50 psi pumped in there.??

i must be missing something if he puts the rubber stopper in and pumps it up woudlent that mean the rubber stopper would be pressing against the barrel all hitting the valve stem would do it vent the air out of the back of the light?

I was wondering the same thing. I think what happens is the rubber stopper stops the air from escaping through the tube when filling the body with the air pump. However, when you release a little pressure manually it allows the rubber stopper to move away from the tube thus allowing some air to escape through the tube propelling the bb. That's my theory, I wonder if it's correct.

For those who still aren't sure how it works, this setup is basically a mini coaxial piston, a fairly common and simple configuration. The rubber stopper acts as the piston in this case, moving between the barrel and tire valve. when he pumps air in, the only release is through the barrel, so the piston is pulled to the barrel, and under enough pressure creates a seal. once he releases pressure out of the valve, the piston is instantaneously sucked back towards the valve allowing the air pressure to be released through the barrel (barrel flow rate>valve flow rate, i.e. path of least resistance).

rubber stopper is what holds the pressure inside the flashlight, without it leaking out the bb tube. once the valve is tripped, the pressure is released escaping through the bb tube forcing the bb out of the barrel. same premise as how pressure builds behind a projectile, and inside of a gun barrel

I think that the reason that it shoots the bb when you release air from the chamber is that when you release air the force of the air escaping pulls the rubber stopper back, then when the pin is released the air pressure inside the maglight pushes the stopper forward which pushes air that propels the bb forward.

When you put air into it it pushes the rubber stoper against the barrell sealing it off. then it fills up around the barrel with high presure, when you releace presure in the area by the rubber stopper, (by pressing the tire vaulve) it allows the rubber stopper to be pushed out from against the barrel, and realeasing the rest of the preasure out the barrel.

Its simple really, the rubber piece isnt meant to be airtight. It pushes into the barrel then air flows around it and builds in the body of the flashlight, when you release air it is pulled of the barrel by the pressure allowing it to release through the barrel shooting the bb.

the stopper makes sure that the tire valve doesnt move to make sure that no air escapes and therefore making the 100psi consistant within the flashlight.

The trigger works because you just tap the pin it releases enough air to let pressure off the rubber stopper sealing the barrel because you only tap the pin the back is sealed again and the air escapes throughout the barrel taking the BB with it.
