I attended a funeral in New York once where the family spent tens of thousands of dollars to put on a show. The sad thing is that the deceased was the only daughter who was an alcoholic and the black sheep of the family. When she needed help to go into rehab the family wanted nothing to do with her they felt she was a disgrace to the family so they never financed her rehab treatment. When she passed everyone was crying and spent a ton of money 💰 for a show funeral, paid for an opera singer at the church, a violinist, most expensive casket, horse drawn carriage, then there was a Reception after the burial at an expensive Catering hall where 500 guests was served in fine china. After this experience it opened my eyes to what really matters in life if only they assisted her when she needed it she could have still been alive.

That is so sad. I had a sort of similar experience but the opposite. My ex’s cousin was a wonderful woman who worked hard took care of her children and like nice thing and good food. I admired her very much still do. She got sick and got worst very quick. And passed away. Her family fought over her things and her funeral was small and she had on polo tee shirt and maybe jeans. The family took from her young adult children. It frightened me. So sad.

The funeral director should have checked out the selected church it's layout if steps were present the gradient of the stairs the radius of the turn etc cuz any hiccups & it reflects badly on him & the Funeral home. It's a pity Euston's Mum's funeral wasn't smooth running. Those lead lined coffins/caskets are extremely heavy & normally abit wider than a standard sized vessel add a body to the mix & it's incredible weight to move especially by pall bearers whom may be new to this kinda thing plus they had to deal wid tight turns & almost lifting overhead.

I still cry. It still sucks, it never gets easy, but this is a waste. I would think you'd put the money to good use like forming a trust or scholarship in his name donating to help fight against the disease that took him. Love them while they are alive & can appreciate the love you're giving. In turn you have peace in knowing that they KNOW you loved & cherished them. I find people that do these extraordinary things feel guilt in some part for not being there as much as they could or doing as much as they could while they were still on this earth. Plenty of hungry people in the world has nothing to do with losing a loved one who meant everything particularly your own mother, When you're going through that stress of arranging a burial and what you're spending on your loved one, hungry people doesn't equate. OMG……I used to be in the floristry business, and if a traveller passed away they didn’t care what it cost, they just wanted frames made to resemble things special to them…you couldn’t buy the frames then, they all had to be wired and mossed, each flower wired separately, whereas now they make styrofoam frames, soak them, them just insert the flowers into it…. Horse drawn carriages, lots of horses, big cars, the works. No….Traveller’s really are generous to their loved ones…..as some tributes are seen on here!

My uncle said the same thing but when you gone, you have little control over how you are buried or cremated, unless you pay for it in advance and majority of the world doesn't want to do it! Reason being is that you are staring DEATH in the face! Unless you're a senior citizen or have a terminal illness
@Ma1nguy4 жыл бұрын
@@oranseay2559 You can add a codicil to your will which states if any part of your wishes are not honored all proceeds of your estate will be given to a charity of your choice. Meaning if you choose not to have a lavish funeral and they supersede that, the estate will be turned over to a charity
@oranseay25594 жыл бұрын
@@Ma1nguy That's if you have a will! The most responsible people that you may know are the people who don't have their affairs in order! They may have life insurance figured out, but no set will, because they think they can put it off! Those are the ones who die unexpectedly! Cause, you want the kids to split the life insurance equally that doesn't mean anything, you have that in more if majority of your assets were liquidated(the unessential one) for the funeral to be paid for and more! So, no will if you are of a certain age like you see, so someone else is sending you off! And the way that they do is a sign of love! The older you get, the less people at your services! Why do people spend most of the insurance money on funerals? The dead don't know if they're in a cardboard box or bronze casket. The PURPOSE of the insurance money is to replace the loss of income of the decreased, and andddddd to ensure the the SURVIVORS have money to carry on and maintain an income. We all want a respectful send off for our love ones, however it shouldn't break the bank.

@helencheadle52854 жыл бұрын
Yes, do as much as you can for BOTH parents while you are lucky enough to have them...spoil them...flowers, meals, poems letters, whatever. Now is your chance to learn all you can about your family history! Write it all down as they tell you. Go through old boxes of photos together and laugh together hoe fashions have changed, don’t end up with a box of photos, stern faces, happy faces, but no clue whether they are actual relatives even! Find out what jobs your parents used to do, and their parents etc etc..where your folks met. Where you all lived when you arrived. More flowers and perhaps a nice takeaway meal one night..save mum cooking, . If you have siblings, arrange for everyone to come for a family meal, rake away or whatever...sure your mum will say she wants to cook for you, but when you get older, it gets harder to cope, so help prep the veg etc, serving, clearing away, AND washing up! Talking to dad, see if he will tell you about any household repair jobs needing doing, he just doesn’t feel up to right now...arthritis playing up or whatever..again, if you have siblings or a Caring partner, see if you can tackle these to give him peace of mind, or find someone who can! Cut the grass for them, and/or hedges. We like to take pride in our homes abd gardens as we get older, but age and health issues appear when least expected, and try as we might, we just can’t get on top of things. You feel ashamed, then depressed about it all, when young people can whiz round like tornadoes and get things done by the time we make a cup of tea. ALL OF THESE MEMORIES will stay with you..the fact you cared enough to help, and most of all, spend some time with your older parents. Today’s world moves ahead at such a pace, especially with technology thst it gets away from us, trying to cope!. Little gestures . Made with love, flowers, lending a hand, and tine spent together make us older folk more happy than you realise, abd you will always remember and be thankful you did so in later years, when it’s your turn! Lol 💞💞💞

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that funerals are not for the deceased person. They are for the living. It's a way to say goodbye and find some kind of closure. If this is what makes them feel better then so be it but damn. So much could have been done with that amount of money. I can't wrap my head around spending a fortune on a funeral. But if that's how they want to spend it I guess it isn't my business. However, they did make a documentary about their lavish ways so I guess they opened themselves up to criticism.

Hold the service at the bin and when the truck comes by i want them to wave good bye as the fork lift me up into the air and dump me with the sticks and leaves. I want them to applaud as the fork is lowered and wave goodbye as the truck leaves!

Thankfully you can now have a Catholic Mass when ur cremated. Then he wanted us to spend lots of cash on booze for a “wake” aka party, which we did. That was his wishes, we made him happy.
