The hi-hat sounds so dirty and awesome, which model is Jojo using in this song? I may need a pair of those :)

I think the sound you like is the processing. Probably copperphone into distressor, with parallel sansamp. The hihats could be anything.

Basically, in order to make your hihats sound like that, you need around $1,994 dlls ( I just checked)

Jojo's amazing drumming seems to be mixed too far back behind all the electronic sounds on this entire c.d. to the point that his playing is drowned out. Perhaps they are trying something different as all bands do, however, all of the songs are mixed in the same way-- no instrument or sound is brought forward then back. It all sounds rather smushed and just crunched down together. I was quite excited to hear what new beats, soundscapes, and electronic elements Jojo and his bandmates had come up with as I am a drummer and learn so much from playing along with Nerve recordings . Unfortunately, this release is a disappointment. I have listened to the songs two to three times and I still cannot find that heart--pounding beat or exciting experience of sound and emotional element this wonderful group of musicians usually create.

We suggest you keep trying - we all feel that this is our best record to date, artistically.

JojoMayerNerve : I will listen more because I usually love all the sound-scapes and Jojo's exceptional drum playing on all Nerve recordings . l'm still trying to figure out which of your E.P.s to purchase and I'm constantly listening and playing my drums to ' Ghosts of Tomorrow ' C.D. That is a classic! I learn quite a bit from watching Jojo Mayer videos and Nerve live performances. I did find a song (which I somehow missed ) from the new release that I can't stop listening to--- it's the purely acoustic Jazz song. That one is GOLD. I'm in the process of creating an online YouNow site discussing Drummers and their technical skills, writing reviews of cymbals, drum heads, special effects cymbals etc. as well as C.D. releases. If you have any extra demo or C.D.s you would like reviewed you can send them my way . I will keep listening to the few sound bites of your latest full length release on KZbin because I want to give it a better review. Thank you for writing back ~

I got Ghosts Of Tomorrow and I found that to be instantly easier to listen too. But I think certain things take a bit of time.. I love To Listen Is To Love on this album. This one is great too and has a great feel.

And yes, the acoustic jazzy one is very cool too.

I consider that you are being very severe. As a percussionist, I realize that nerve has achieved it; define your style and concept, as proof is: Flat Earth-Nerve
