With this controller you get easy access to repair options, since most is 3d printed. hot-swappable keyboard switches and a convenient size. Additionally, as it draws from the GP2040 powered by Pico, one of the best low latency input around. This is definitely my go to recommendation for inexpensive leverless controller, as you described, it's a great way to test if you'll enjoy it without compromising hundreds of bucks. And to be fair, this will be what the vast majority of players will ever need (even to some extent of competitive level for online events).

I bought this controller based on your review, and I love it. I've had the thing for around seven months, and its been great. As far as im concerned the market for leverless controllers is absurdly priced. Especially for something I wasn't sure if I was going to like. $300 for razor's kitsune? $200+ for various controllers that look identical from companies I've never heard of?

Sounds to me like you prefer the layouts similar to noir which shifts the pinkie buttons down. As for the size, you can simply put the flatbox on a cutting board or lap desk.

Yes let me carry a cutting board around haha. All jokes aside it’s more so the button sizes since i was used to the 30mm ones not only on my other leverless controllers but also my arcade sticks from my past.

It's soo good! I accidently bought one with no led or screen but just bought the new m16 for $100 thanks for the tip. I can't believe I never tried fighting games with a keyboard. So much better once you get used to it. Took me around an hour, although up symbols in combos break my brain, just need to think of it as a direction + jump button.

Nice m16 seems like a lil more premium version of this not bad. Even comes with the ps4 flash. Due note that the ones that have the dualshock 4 glash are not running rp2040 official software so if you update it you will most likely lose the function if you happen to be on ps.

Thankfully found this because I was planning on buying the B1 at first but read it was not good and you made a vid about it being bad too. Not a bad idea, i actually sanded the holes for the buttons after this vid a lil. Some of them weren’t perfect and would cause friction on the snackbox buttons.

I don’t think mine came with it but i know you can install the software on the pico for it you just gotta rip the memory of a ds4 for it. Since i use the brook converter i Havent found a need for it.

I picked up one of these recently with the pinks when I saw your post about grabbing one for review 😂 Loving it so far for such a cheap all button layout. As far as the layout, have you considered swapping your drive parry and drive impact buttons? Might help with the slight layout difference if you play with all four fingers on the top row instead of pinky staggered to bottom row.

I have one of these and it's great but the MAJOR problem you failed to address is how the jump button pops out if you hit it on the sides. It's happened to me countless times

Has never happened to me, have you checked if one of the clips for the button is broken? They gave you an extra button just in case. My caps were hard to remove actually and required extra force so i never had a pop out.

@@FrankieJPlays they may have changed the design since I got mine a good while ago, the snackbox was reportedly having a similar issue so they redesigned that buttons gap, or so they say on their website. Maybe these copied the new design

@@p0tatob0ys i know snackbox had that issue but these caps were on very tight. So much so i actually snapped one inside and had to do surgery in the switch to take it out. I got it a while back too. Then again these are 3d printed things so Quality will be different with each one.

It’s a great device for starters who want to try out leverless or just a great device in general. I don’t see many people wanting anything else for a while if they get this. The pico board with gp2040 software keeps getting better. They have full ps4 support now if you update and flash a dualshock key etc to it. They also got ps5 support semi working. If you are on the edge i say go for it ! It’s so good for the price.

I believe you can customize it through the web app. You access it by holding start or the big red button when plugging the device into the pc the little screen will show web configurator mode if done correctly. Then you go type this ip in your adress in the browser 192.168.7.1 They have the tutorial in the description if you go to the allie express link in the bio of this video too.

Yeah you can change the switches to any kailh choc low profile switches of your choice. Also the caps have to be compatible with choc low profile switches. Make sure it’s the original choc or the v1s not the newer v2s those are mx style. Best buttons you can put are the official snackbox ones but you may need to sand the holes a bit since those caps ate a tiny bit bigger. I put those one in the review.

They work natively on switch pc and ps3. To make them work on ps4 and ps5 you have to flash em with sone dualshock 4 files. Unfortunately it’s “illegal” so we can’t make video tutorials on it but plenty of forums and stuff to guide you. Otherwise just buy a brook converter for your console its like an extra 20-60$ depending on sale price atm.

You also don’t need to disassemble it to change switches just pull the buttons out and the switches usually come out with it if not watch my b1-pc switch upgrade video and it’s the same process. In the case of a custom shell i would not know where to get one except for commissioning one from the discord i linked. Doing that would make this device no longer “budget” and better off getting another device i have reviewed. Besides the SnackBox buttons which i show in this video i would leave this device as is since it’s meant to be budget/starting point for leverless.

Just go with the reds and if you need faster actuation /less force you go order some pinks later on they go for like 10$ for the set. Reds are a perfect medium

Just received mine from aliexpress and found that the convex buttons i got from junk food arcade for the snack box micro wouldn't work with this out of the box. The holes for the buttons are too small to use the official ones. Is there any solution for this besides printing a new case with bigger holes for the buttons?

Yes! I actually had to sand the jump button a bit because it kept getting stuck. Just sand the holes out a bit with sand paper or if you got the tools/drill to make em a lil bigger . It’s very easy to take a part no meed for a new case. Only had to to do it to one action button and jump so i guess they are not all printed the same.

reds are a great starting point fast actuation with normal force if you use silvers in your keyboard or anything with less then 40gs go with the pinks for the fastest actuation. i got the reds in mine

The fact that this is so small for my lap is definitely a big issue. Are there any easy solutions to add a platform to make it wider? I know they have some 3D printed ones for the official snackbox but I'm not sure if they'd fit.

Okay, so I am not buying the B1-PC it seems. :D What switch Kailh Switch is the closest on this one to a Cherrx MAX Black? Also how do you feel about the small buttons (Options, R3, L3)? On the B1-PC those were also mechanical switch buttons.

Reds 😬 i show em in the video, if you want faster actuation choose the pinks but the reds is what snackbox’s comes with so i wanted that feel. You can swap em and order different ones on amazon etc for like 10-20$ anyways.

could you make a comparison video for who never used different switches? I use a Logitech G815 wich Kaihl Lowprofille Browns (i think) and altho I love it for typing, i much prefer to play tekken on controller than on it that feel with too much travell and strong bump for fighting.@@FrankieJPlays

@@Yamagatabr thats why you go with the reds and if you want the least ammount of travel you would go with the pinks, if you watch my b1 pc upgrade to the silvers you will pretty much get how the reds would be since they are similar. If you want the least amount of force then you would go with the pinks!

@@FrankieJPlays I'm a member of the GP2040-CE community, and for what it's worth, we're not able to support Aliexpress-sourced flatboxes for a whole bunch of reasons (particularly unspecified changes to the firmware that result in the controller ending up bricked if the default firmware gets flashed onto them). Generally speaking, anyone who comes to the server asking for help with a box from Ali is going to get pointed back to the seller for support. Many local manufacturers are members of the community themselves and a lot of the time will be able to help out directly if you go to the server: because they care about the project and their products and are transparent about how they implement the firmware.

This is not the Snackbox clone, this is the BentoBox clone.

Bento box uses v2 switches which are mx style and 30mm buttons. This is closer to the snackbox only thing the bento shares with this is the software and screen.

@@FrankieJPlays and the form factor, and the button sizes, and the button layout... Bentobox V1.0 does not have 30mm buttons, they're all 20mm. V1.0 went through a second iteration, which is the "current" bentobox V1.0. It uses Kailh Choc low profile V2 switches. The first iteration used the basic Kailh Choc low profiles that aren't the plus connector like Cherry MX style. and the button caps were clear instead of black too. There is now a newer Bentobox V2.0 with a different, and also imo worse design since it's closer to Snackbox Micro. Bentobox 2 now has a single 30mm for up, and the rest 20mm.

@@FrankieJPlays pretty much yeah. Snackbox Micro is quite different. There's quite a few variations of the flatbox. To be fair though, I'm not sure whether bentobox was earlier. I imagine flatbox or similar ones were before anyway since I imagine the GP2040 stuff would've been getting worked on along with the mini display screen from earlier.
