In the first half of the decade, when a lot of the defining artists of the 2010s were still new, the prevalent trend for those artists was dropping mixtapes that essentially had quality of full on albums. The fact that they were mixtapes I’m sure had a lot to do with the legal implications behind clearing samples and requirements behind that nature of the business. All of that was combined with the fact that these were fresh faces in music that needed their first couple releases to come out on their own terms in regards to the type sound they were putting on the project to even just the rollout itself. This mixtape is undoubtedly one of those projects that’s considered to be so great as a release that it’s almost really considered to be an album. Acid Rap, LiveLoveA$AP, Return of 4eva and BetterOffDead are classics that defined this era of Hip Hop. It’s just crazy to say now that we can look back on the 2010s as era that has now passed to see what pieces of music that came out will hold its weight going forward into the future.

I've been lucky enough to see Flatbush Zombies about 6 times including on the Clockwork Indigo and Beast Coast tours, and I have to say they are still the best live show I think I've ever seen. Every time I've seen them they've brought undeniable energy, lots of their songs have certain parts that are meant for the crowd to chant back and let me tell you the crowd always does even if they don't know who FBZ are!

I love all of the zombies project. But, Better Off Dead is THE mixtape for me. Favorite project by them. The nostalgia it brings back. I actually got to see Flatbush zombies in 2015 in Brixton. It was crazy, especially when they done bliss and thug waffle. I would definitely recommend anyone who gets the chance to see them to do it, still to this day I haven’t seen anyone with as much energy as these guys have on stage.

Fuck I love this album, I caught these guys at a show in Birmingham a few years ago and it was INTENSE. Ended up in the mosh pit with Meechy Darko, joint hanging from his mouth, while they played Herb Shuttles with The Underachievers. One of the best shows ever.
