You guys inspired me to start fostering. So far I've fostered two cats and they've found loving homes! I just got two more yesterday, and am working on socializing them

Congratulations. You'll probably never be out of a job now. LOL. It is wonderful to hear your story. I have 2 strays (always strays), but I have never been able to foster because of working and I live now semi-retired in Scandinavia and there aren't so many stray cats in this part of the world. Just as well maybe because just having the two costs a fortune up here and my pension is not top end.

Here's a tip I rarely see mentioned, but worked WONDERS for me with two 5-6 month old kittens born from a mostly feral farm cat. I kept them in a room, just large enough to fit a madras and a kitten hidy hole. And I slept there. Sleeping next to anyone is a HUGE sign of trust, falling into a deep sleep with them nearby told them I trusted them not to eat me.(Not that they could eat me) And showed I had no interest in harming them. Also, make sure they see you coming with the food and giving it to them. Makes it very easy for them to understand your giving them food, this isn't food they found. And I wish you the best of luck Oayah!

Something even experienced fosters need to be reminded of - sometimes you don't choose the cat, the cat chooses you. After years of fostering cats with success, I came across a lovely little mama who stuck to me like glue. When I really started to feel conflicted, my beloved old man passed away and made the decision for me. It's like he was waiting for someone who could boss me around as much as he did. The cat distribution service strikes again.

Years ago, I watched a video about a pet psychic. I am a pretty firm, closed off sceptic. But this lady hypnotised me with the sense of relief, being around her (I know, go figure right,) and she said amongst many truisms that cats don't like to pass on without organising a replacement for themselves in the future. Or once they pass, they will spend six months to a year organising a replacement for their humans as they are very sensitive about their humans' grief. If their humans choose not to take the replacement on, not a problem... but they've done their job. Very fussy about it they are.

Definitely know what you mean when you say how special it is when you earn a cat's trust. I used to volunteer at a cat rescue center and made it my mission to try to help a few cats at a time who I thought needed some individual love and kindness (it was a no-cage shelter so the cats were just free roaming). One of the cats I helped was an FIV+ cat I called Cheddar. The FIV+ cats were in a separate room and didn't get as much human interaction so I would try to hang out with all of them and give them some love. Cheddar was affectionate but aloof and I just felt like he needed someone to show him he was loved. Turns out that person was me, I adopted him and he became my best friend. I've never had such a deep connection with a cat, the level of trust and understand we had between each other was something I never expected and yet deeply cherished. Cheddar got lymphoma in 2020 and by the time the vet found it, it was too late. My sweet boy passed away in my arms 3 years ago today. I miss him every day but I was able to go on and get another FIV+ rescue last year who desperately needed a home. Thank you for helping spread the word about FIV+ cats! There are so many rumors and untrue statements about caring for them and I'm glad people are sharing the truth.

I'm sorry for your loss. Cheddar's existence was a blessing to this world. Rest in peace, Cheddar. Thank you for gave him the love and care he deserved. I lost 1😿, Totot due to lymphoma in 2020 too. It was just before COVID. The love of my life, Chot who was also Totot's older brother passed away due to complications after surgery to remove tumor in his mouth. 5 months later, Totot passed away. My relationship with Chot just like you and Cheddar. We understand each other and I have deep connection with him.

I rescued an orange cat in 2020. He was old and in a bad state, he fought a lot with other cats. Afterwards the vet told us he was positive for FIV and FelV. He lived 4 beautiful years with us, he was so loved and cherished.Our connection was like no other. He was so sweet, loving, smart and had a true love for life. He got lymphoma and we did everything we could but he did not make it. It has broken us in so many ways, but i am glad i met him in this life and that i was able to love him.

It's such a tough situation. I've fostered over a hundred kittens, and have managed not to keep them, but the seniors are so much harder to pass on once they get used to your house. It feels like you're betraying them. Sometimes, they just need to stay!
@angelachouinard458110 ай бұрын
I have a a couple that I just had to keep. One was the sole survivor of a litter dumped behind a store in a plastic tub. He constantly bit every one and everything. By the time I got him to stop (he still likes to chew up cardboard) the rescue was swamped with more kittens and he was "too old". Another one got pulled from a PetSmart in cardiac failure. Two vets swore he was about to die. But he didn't. In fact he no longer takes meds and is enjoying a healthy middle age. Now I have two kittens in foster everyone swore were 6 to 8 weeks but they were very wild. No way were they that young, they were closer to 12 to 14 and it's taking forever to tame them.
@krisniznik395310 ай бұрын
@@angelachouinard4581 Cats tame when they're ready. I saved a litter of 5 last June and the last one went to his new home yesterday. Sometimes they just have their own schedule. He benefited from hanging out with one of my senior guys after his siblings left. That calmed him down a lot. The 16 year old enjoyed it too. I think I'm going to put my new ones in with him part time since it went so well.

The idea of my cats flinching is truly upsetting. My two are litter brothers, in fact they are the entire litter. They do mutual grooming which usually ends in a tussle but never an out and out fight. They both have their 'safe place' to get away from the other or they come to me for protection. This video has the makings of a Disney movie.

Then a cop counted over 5 cats in the windows and I was invited to take my cats & Go Away! I’m older and we all moved to 3 acres in the country a few decades ago. Point is, my dozens of cats did not fight. I may have initially helped a bit with a water gun…..😊…..but I found they grouped together by coat color, which I found very interesting. Bless y’all!❤❤❤

Have been with Flatbush Cats 🐈 from the start. It's been awhile since your videos affected me. But when Jr finally accepted your scritches, the throat choked up and eyes watered. Have a community of 6 regular cats, 2 for about 6 yrs. The newest is a very orange tabby, about 6 mos., wandered in, or dropped off, who knows. But he easily accepted our pets and rubs, and the community did as well, tho they sometimes give a little whop to make him settle down, since he is a kitten and plays like one! The low cost spay/neuter clinics are not local and always back logged with appointments. We were lucky at times. Keep up the good work, and thank you, Flatbush Cats 🐈
