Phoenix was left behind by his owners in their old apartment building where he spent a year before being rescued. When his foster moms took him in, he was so shut down, he didn't want to interact with them or the other cats. But one day, a tiny kitten decided she was going to get him to play with him and the most wonderful thing happened.

The same thing happened with a dachshund (Winnie) my family had. She was old and sick. The vet said she had 6 or months. My mom got a Chihuahua and all the sudden Winnie came back to life. Running around playing by herself with us and with the Chihuahua. She lived 4 more years.

God, who would give up a cat that looks like Phoenix? The two different colored eyes and that light colored fur. You don't come across a cat like that very often. Such a sweet story...so happy for Phoenix and Ruby.

Not everyone realizes that cats can get depressed too. Especially strays that have been left behind - it's a devastating experience for them. It's amazing to see Phoenix's emotional transition (truly a fitting name for him). It seems that having a baby to take care of gave him a sense of purpose and a source of joy.
