She is so small and adorable because all Scottish Folds suffer from an issue with their collagen that also causes joint problems and chronic pain. @mttlsa6865 ай бұрын
What you say is right but good breeders ensure as less issues as possible, mating just healthy cats to carry good genes. But this is not the reason this cat is small. He's small because it's not adult. I have a 7 years old male scottish fold (from a good breeder) which was like this cat when he was less than 1 year old and now he's massive. Not because he's fat (honestly he's pretty chonky but he's still agile, playful and self sufficient, and for his breed 6,5/7 kg are not that much, the vet says) but because he has a big structure thanks to his parents. His father was 3 times champion British shorthair named "zeus", just to give a reference of his massiveness 😂. Btw they will 100% have serious and really painful issues if you breed 2 scottish fold instead of scottish fold + British shorthair or scottish fold + scottish straight. If you breed a scottish fold with another not folded cat, both with good genes, there's a really small probability to get scottish folds with life threatening or too painful issues. 🤝
@onions8315 ай бұрын
@mttlsa686 "good breeders ensure as less issues as possible" is still objectively unethical when compared to "breeders do not select for traits that would cause issues". If a trait being bred for has an associated medical issue, it should. Not. Be. Bred.

Scottish Straights also have some of the same defects, it's just not as bad as the Folds. This does depend on the cat's ancestry though, for example if one of the parents is a Fold, the problems might be more pronounced than if one of the grandparents is a Fold. I only learned this after getting a Scottish Straight myself, but fortunately both parents of my cat are Straights and are healthy, indoor-outdoor cats.

Vanessa, please make disclaimer that Scottish Folds should NOT be bred for health reasons. The cartilage mutation that gives them the folded ear also gives them joint problems and they are in pain their entire lives. If you want one, please adopt and do not encourage breeding. I love your videos, but there is far too much internet content about cute Scottish Folds that doesn't explain what we are doing to these poor cats and people buy them without knowing.

I was looking around for this exact comment. As adorable as they seem, the breeding of Scottish Folds should not be promoted!

Aww, what a cutie! The best cats try to escape but they are still not attacking you, just trying to get away. I would hug her like Elmyra Fudd!
