Should Subaru "STI" Everything?

What would be amazing would be a late 90’s inspired Legacy wagon STI limited. If they STI’d everything then you’d have to also say what STI referring to when saying have a STI though. They should bring back the more square boxy look with prominent fender flares and not so round looking as the bodies are leaning to with most models of their cars. ✨ Staying tuned

Yes, as long as all of these so called STIs are proper STIs and have bespoke engine, 6 speed STi transmission and Brembo brakes. (Forester STi, Legacy S402 etc) These days STi anything in Japan means CVT plus some STi tuned badges and sport pedal caps.

The number 1 factor is emissions. The EPA is tightening up on OEMs and what is ok for a car isn’t always ok for an SUV/wagon. So they can invest easily in cosmetic mods because the investment in performance is really high and might not even be allowed.

There’s a Hagerty article titled ‘Before you buy a 04-07 WRX STI here’s what you need to know’ where they list production numbers for just WRX STI. For example, they claim over 7000 USDM WRX STI’s were sold in 2004. While other sources for just 04 WRX list slightly under 7000 models. If true, this would mean the WRX STI outsold the WRX in 04 in the US, which is pretty crazy.

We don’t need Subaru doing what Dodge does which is Hellcat everything 😂. But they should at least let a customer order one from the factory with a manual ir what they want. They really need to bring the Levorg over, they brought it to Mexico, like why not US 😂. Tho a STI version of a crosstrek would be badass, I can imagine one with 400hp now.

Comment 2 - (yeah, they're backwards here maybe) Crosstrek with an STI drivetrain, suitably stiffened body, that's going back towards what the GD chassis was, a rally OR street sport car done with the smaller & lighter body. The GR Corolla weighs what my GD STI does within 100 lb. Also, DO NOT content them up. Allow people to add sound deadening, stereo with 19 speakers & subwoofer, but let us leave it OFF if we want. Don't be like Porsche and offer the full fat car then offer a lighter version for more money later without the crap.

Sorry, comment 3. Why is/was the STI so low in numbers? It had an (at the end) 18 year old engine, that had been nearly magical and later was equal to a Camry. Make a true performance gap to the STI cough*400+HP*cough. The extra 20 HP at the end S209 garbage, doesn't even make up for the weight gained over the years. Bonus, if you give the STI enough extra HP then you don't have to worry that a Crosstrek STI with the 2.4 WRX will be faster than the STI.
