Man I wish this man would have been around back in 01 when I was working on my swap and even though I worked at a subaru dealership and I had access to factory instructors and all sorts of big brains getting the information back then to figure out how to get the dccd working on the sti ra 5 speed I was using was a nightmare! Lol but we eventually got a half a55 manual controller rigged up and that worked for a while 😅

I think the big reaction time of the DCCD itself, as mentioned by Matt, especially comes down to the mechanical working principle of the LSD mechanism. If you look at the technical drawings of the DCCD, you can see that the electric magnet does not activate the LSD clutch pack directly but instead another clutch that will hold a special circular ramp part to the diff housing. The counterpart to this ramp part rotates along with the rear output of the diff and If (and only If) it rotates relative to the first ramp part it starts to compress the main LSD clutch that will lock the diff. This means that it wont lock the diff only by activating the magnet, it will also require at least a little relative rotation between front and rear axle and it will also react faster if this Speed difference is bigger. It also means that it is not possible to pre-lock the diff from a stant-still.

This was a great and very informative episode. I really enjoyed the insight having recently installed a MapDCCD Controller & Advanced Wheel Speed Processor in my Forester. I did however wish you could have touched a bit on the Auto setting of the controller and how exactly that works compared to the maps. I do tend to just leave it in auto mode more often than not when driving around town as it was my understanding this was best but am curious to know a little bit more of how exactly the auto mode operates.
@FlatironsTuning
@FlatironsTuning Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question and thanks for watching. In Auto Mode, the MAP DCCD controller is only looking at its internal accelerometer information to adjust how the center diff is working. It isn't looking at any of the date from the car inputs as far as I know. This will make it a bit slower to respond. Putting the controller into one of the mapped modes will get the controller to look at the sensor input coming from the car, so it will be a bit faster to respond, and will respond more predictably compared to the Auto mode. Hope that helps and Stay Tuned!

Also installing into an 04 (sg) Forester. Did you need the wheel speed processor or was that just personal preference? I'm trying to work out it's function over the already included 3-axus sensor within the base controller.

Thank you Jon and Matt. This was one of the best Syndicate videos I've watched so far and is exactly where I am at with learning progression for my car. I am using Auto and now I will be trying your method of finding my sweet spot (Will be probably leaning towards #3. My question is, with the DCCD Pro, do I even need the upgraded DCCD magnet from X Shift? I was told this is a good upgrade but by someone running another controller.
@FlatironsTuning
@FlatironsTuning Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. With the MAP DCCD, you should not have to upgrade the magnet in the DCCD simply because you are adding the sequential transmission. If you find that you are wearing through the clutch disks too quickly, you could consider going with the upgraded magnet, or you could switch to a mechanical center differential like the Modena. Thanks again for watching, hope that helps, and Stay Tuned!

You guys put out the best content, keep em coming mate! Are the four maps already pre loaded in the unit or do you have to connect your laptop and load the four maps?
@FlatironsTuning
@FlatironsTuning Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! Yes, the MAP DCCD comes pre-loaded with the 4 tarmac maps. But if you plug it in to your computer, you can switch those out for the other maps that are in the software. Stay Tuned!

I’m curious about shuffling some hose routing and draining the AOS to the turbo oil drain by installing a Y or T fitting below the turbo.

I'm a huge fan of the MAPDCCD. Is there a way to add braking and launching options to the auto function? Like what you described in the convo with the corner entry braking, or launching if you have the wheel speed indicators hooked up
@FlatironsTuning
@FlatironsTuning Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. You do have the ability to adjust the behavior of the center diff under braking with the MAP DCCD. And if you can isolate a launch condition with a combination of speed and throttle/rpm, you should be able to adjust that behavior as well. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
