It's not about front or rear bias, it's about how much locking force is applied in the electronic LSD of the center diff. The bias is dictated by the planetary gears and therefore always fixed at 41:59. This is hardware-driven and cannot be changed by electronics, which only control the increase or decrease in the LSD effect of the center diff.

Awesome detailed information brother. My VDC is a glorified boost controller now with my Protune. On an external wastegate setup and 3 port boost solenoid. I = 13psi (Spring Pressure) , S = 15psi, S# = 18psi. Before in stock mode, VDC was pretty much pointless, and always left it in S Mode.

Love the videos brother but you are going over the DCCD and SI-DRIVE systems. The dial for Intelligent (I), Sport (S) & Sport Sharp (# ) is the SI-Drive system. VDC (vehicle dynamics control) is Subaru’s Electronic Stability Control. This is found in pretty much every Subaru model. It’s like traction control.

You also have aftermarket DCCD controllers that add quite a bit more than stock. MapDCCD and Spiider Plus, both are more sophisticated and can be customized as well as have better auto settings. Although this more applies to a WRX with swapped STI 6 speeds.

I found in my 06 sti most of the time I have it almost unlocked fully (usually in the second position from the bottom) and it stops the rear diff from doing the annoying clunk between gears at low speeds. If I have it fully unlocked it will do it almost all the time unless i'm accelerating hard between gears. When its wet roads i'll put it halfway locked for better front end control, but if it is snow/ice i'll keep it almost fully locked. Only time I ever lock it is when I am drifting in really deep snow, I do notice the steering get much stiffer as I increase the diff lock as well. Fuel economy is effected greatly by having it more locked as well, so that's why I mainly keep it unlocked. In auto mode I can feel my car almost always has my diffs locked cause my steering gets heavy and you can hear the front diff wine more. Love having the option to change between the settings though, manual mode is definitely the way to go!
@Smeedia4 жыл бұрын

Lol every wrx is turbo
@romankartsev2203 жыл бұрын
Thank you for explaining everything so well! I been trying to decide to get wrx or sti for many years. DCCD and VDC sounds great but thats an extra gadget or equipment that ads more weight to the car and causes reliability to go down because its more stuff to break down. I wish they made the WRX with the STI transmission and the 2.5 liter and sti turbo because I really don't like the idea of adjusting all these nobs. WRX seems much simpler but it has weaker transmission and rev hang and less power than STI. Plus sti can be modified very heavily up to 600 horsepower with factory transmission. So they are very different cars on the internals.
@ewankerley48402 жыл бұрын
Just build an STI swapped WRX if you haven’t already. That’s what I’m in the process of doing atm.

Honestly i couldn't go back. The benefits of both are like a different car and awesome to change it up. Auto + is a beast that pulls you through tough turns if you can manhandle the torque steer. True AWD feel. Wish we had split % #s for +/- and all manual ranges. I believe LOCK is locked 50/50.

Auto+ makes the steering wheel seem heavier, I have a 2020 and I love it 😻 but definitely auto- and sport# ❤️
@nthgth2 жыл бұрын
Just got a '20 STI a few months ago. I figure for most driving, leaving DCCD in manual and with full "minus" puts it as open as possible (lowest chance of binding) and since it's not auto, it won't be constantly adjusting things so they aren't wearing out as fast. Make sense? Also, in traffic, I find Sport+ best because it's easiest to avoid stalling if the engine responds immediately ☺️ Does the SI Drive setting matter when in cruise control, given that the throttle is fully automated then? 🤔
@Smeedia2 жыл бұрын
When it cruise control it won't really matter the SI drive just adjustments the sensitivity if the gas pedal 🔥

Hey man, you got it pretty wrong on how the DCCD works. It doesn't bias front or rear. It simply modulates the amount of lock up force the DCCD clutches apply. Also VDC is not that knob. That's called SI-Drive, which is just a tune mapping changer.
@Aciecarter23811 күн бұрын
Do you need to stop before you change tp auto plus or change it
@Align700nitro4 жыл бұрын
Auto + and - is not bias front or Rear. it's just how much force will there be to keep the C Diff engaged. + means the C diff is firm with very little slip that your rear wheel speed with match front wheel speed if either wheel lost traction. - means the C diff is loosely engaged and power will be send to the wheel that lost traction. Please refer to page 7-20 on the Owner's Manual which makes everything crystal clear.....

Is it possible to upgrade to the 6 piston calipers on the front of a newer wrx? A video of that install would be awesome! Or an upgraded brake kit Installation pretty much.

Oh yeah! But going to be costly 😅 I would go with the 4 pot brembos for the cost savings though

@@Smeedia so 6 piston calipers is pretty much overkill if you don't plan on putting the car on the track, which I don't any time soon 😅

When playing with all these modes is it better to leave traction control on or off ?

Maybe I see it wrong, but are you always shift gears around 3/4 rpm ? Or only on highway?

Do I understand correctly, that DCCD allows to set the Rear/Front power distribution in a range of 50:50 on highest manual lock up to 41:59 on lowest manual setting?

Is it safe to adjust the plus, minus auto with the car in motion ?

Bro can you make a video about the 04/5 dccd?

Sure, what specifically are you wanting out of it? 🙏

Just in general about its effectiveness compared to the newer one and exactly what it does (because as far as I know its different from the new?) ...highly appreciated bro...keep up the grind🙌🙌

I've read that some folks like to set the DCCD to Manual in a fully open setting (or low) to get the cars torque to feel more rear biased. Any reason you would choose Auto (-) over Manual in the fully open diff setting?

Great video,So it is true that full lock on dry termac will blow the drive train? Daaamn I m not sure if Iam ready for that responsability

Its definitely not the best for the car to do so 😅

Im protuned by Johnson tuning. I still feel a big difference when going through the VDC modes. Intelligent wont let my boost dont past 8lbs. Sport gives it a nice response. And sport# is too agressive lol. I hate that mode. Its good for racing but normal driving its too agressive and responsive. If i drive in sport mode for a while and switch to sport#, i find my self over revving the car in first gear.

Sounds like it has a solid tine on it and is a lot of fun to drive though 😍

'SI-Drive' and 'VDC' are two completely different things. What you're referring to as VDC is actually SI-Drive. It does what you describe and I agree that it's pretty pointless. Although on automatic transmissions it's supposed to change shift points and the way it shifts, so maybe it makes a bit more sense there. VDC, on the other hand, is basically ESP - electronic stability program. It uses accelerometers (G-sensors) and gyros to detect 'unusual movement' (a.k.a. sliding out of control) and than cuts power and / or applies individual brakes to stabilize the vehicle.
