A lot of people just ride with a short street bike now especially since they often have fast head tube angles of 75 degrees.. Most riders that are hardcore do not use brakes any more. I personally only have a front brake, so I can still do pinky squeaks. Most tricks today are rolling or pumping and spinning so brakes are not really in fashion. I use 15mm offset forks currently but I also do a lot of no hand hang 5 variations and I find it more stable than zero offset forks. I currently have street bars and a street stem on my Far East cycles frame but a lot of people do prefer minimal sweep like 6 degree on the flatland specific bars and a very short stem. Also a flatland bike comes down to your trick preference. One flatland bike can not really do it all any more. A real difference is in the pegs. The top guys ride the pegs and pivot on the pegs and are more like a bulb at the end of the peg. People who kinda go in straight lines like do hang fives or just peg wheelies straight usually prefer a standard peg that is more just a tube with out a round bulb like end. Much of this is trick preference and weather or not you are pivoting on the peg or going around the bike in a sort of old school way. High pressure tires are key to a lot of this too and some people like myself will even run smaller 1.50" wide tires and run up to 120psi. A freecoaster rear hub is certainly necessary for serious tricks and there is a lot of tech in the flatland specific ones these days.

most riders are into bigger tires nowadays, 1.95 being the sweet spot, I believe Dandois rides 2.1, 1.75 was the go to though for decades already

Short low top tube, short chainstay, quick head tube, if you still use rear brakes preferred for it to be mounted on top so you can run smaller sprocket, high psi tires,

I made a flatland bike out of a 2006 Haro Nyquist. Its a little long but it definitely works! Just think about the geometry of the bikes in the 80's but they still made it work.

@Coastal_Cruzer Maybe. It might be pretty heavy though. I wouldn't say it's ideal to build for flatland but if it's all you got then work with it.

I enjoy your videos and have a request. I’m a returning rider, from the Big Daddy, Morales frame era, and got out. It’s challenging to have been away for so long to bounce back and forth between pictures you’re referencing aligning with tech-specs I’m digesting. I’ve lost track of companies and their directions. Do you have the ability to do a video where you can show frames side-by-side or even close up reviews of offerings from a specific brand. You have a lot of knowledge to offer and would love to understand in better detail what you’re sharing. Or maybe you can offer suggestions for me to consider if I provided some input on what I’m hoping to accomplish. I have no friends in the community to turn to so I’m trying to figure this out solo, and I don’t expect you to go outta your way. Thanks so much, love your content.

No complete bike/frame/components side-by-side comparisons really exist on the interwebs, probably due to corporate influence as they don't want that, just like no one puts weights on components (it's 2025 and I've only seen a handful of weights listed in specs on ANY site). I'm your age and hate the way modern bikes look. I want an old-school bike, but modern components don't fit due to a variety of factors. I think when people say it's not fashionable to ride with brakes anymore makes no sense at first, but looking at the modern stuff, it's clear that specialization or "niche" needs has taken over. I raced from 79-83 locally on a redline MX-II and also used it on jumps/ramps and rode to school on it. Look at helmets, why do we need different helmets for different bikes? Today people have a park bike for skate parks, race bike, street bike, cruiser bike and flatland bike. This is the root of why it's not possible for you to have one bike. I came to this video since I was looking for low-offset forks with brake mounts, but they don't exist, only brakeless forks with low offsets exist, 0mm - 15mm, I found one fork that is 24mm offset with a hole that might fit 883 Nippons, but the only forks that have brake mounts are 30-35mm offset. Lame. My endo's really suck but I haven't done any since I was 14. Back to your comparison needs: for KZbin, check Alfredo Mancuso's channel for his bike shop chats with Phu at Epic BMX, check Brant_moore's repair/component talks, check Scotty Cranmer's channel for builds, parts, bike checks, etc; also this channel is awesome but look at all of Doug's channels, also since you're old school you should look at gt1972 dot com and also torker is back- torker made the haro frames in the 80's and it's now the same guys as supercross bmx, also look at RL Osborn's channel- RL and his son Dylan are just getting back into it again and they have built up some old school bikes with modern stuff like his Haro Legends Freestyler with Magura disc brakes. For components Odyssey is still around and they are better quality now than back then. good luck

I'm confused why would you make this video of you don't know anything about flatland, first you were saying you expected the chain stay to be super long, then you were shocked at how short it was ?

Still confused on the geometry. I’m 5 10” height and was looking at the KHE Plasma for flatland or the Wethepeople Sinus. The KHE is 21.25 where as the Sinus is 19tt l think. In your honest opinion which would the better to run with for my height?
@PabloGonzalez-hv3td
@PabloGonzalez-hv3td 6 ай бұрын
I've seen taller guys on 19tt. 21.25 is long at your height even for street but then again it's all about preference. There's no right or wrong.
@drumfanatik316
@drumfanatik316 4 ай бұрын
I looked at the plasma myself being exactly 6’. I just wasn’t sure about it with not ever have heard of KHE. They seem like decent affordable bikes? I ultimately chose to build a bike to my specs and get everything I wanted. Personally I would go with the Sinus if you’re still in the market? It’s different than anything out there and has some really nice component parts.
@tribalart88
@tribalart88 4 ай бұрын
I had some issues with the sinus setup and made a few modifications to improve it. The Salt cranks were incredibly heavy, so they were the first items I replaced. Honestly, most of the original parts weren't great, and I found that I needed to invest in aftermarket components to get it to perform well. While I can't fully recommend it, the frame itself is decent. If I were you, I'd consider building a different setup altogether. 🤙

I saw this older couple riding what looked like a big BMX bikes. They were just coasting along on the beach sidewalk like beach cruisers. They said they bought.them in San Diego but I don't remember the name of the bike. Anyone got any ideas.

The most popular big BMX bikes these days are made by SE Bikes(Big Ripper, Big Flyer), but a ton of BMX companies are now offering BMX bikes with 26" and 29" inch wheels. Haro, GT, S&M, Sunday, Fit, Throne, Kink and others make these bigger BMX options that have the comfortable riding position of a beach cruiser with the look and some of the capabilities of a BMX bike.

The gyro is not important, neither are the brakes. And what is important is high pressure, specific pegs with notches or griptape, freecoaster. Also this bike have short stem, its usual for flat bikes.
