Flats Kahawai on light FLY gear in Tauranga Harbour | Winter 2020

Pity that you didn't get a fish but you got much better lighting than I did on two visits - both were cold, grey and blowing 15 knots for most of the time! The Tauranga harbour flats are something special and I'm looking forward to getting down there again with my 3 weight. Dick knows those flats - he follows the channels and knows where the fish will be as the tide rises and falls - not random at all if you know the underwater terrain!

I have been lucky with the weather there since last year. Hope that streak continues. Dick certainly knows his stuff and I would have little chance of catching anything without his knowledge. Have to wait till next time though.

Those little fiberglass rods absorb the shock very well and he was putting a lot of pressure on it. Keen to hook one myself. I'll stick with at least 8lb though. I'm a tad too rough for 3 I think.
