In the game director’s defense, when I worked as a QA on a live service game, most of the abilities in the test builds either had placeholder names and placeholder icons, no names/icons at all or just random names/icons made up on the spot. Most of that stuff didn’t get finished until the release build which by that point you’re so far ahead in the seasons that old stuff is being updated or reworked completely.

@ondrejlukas326 You must not use the Hud at all. I use the icons all the time. Then again, I am pretty sure I count as a flex main, considering I am usually the one swapping to counter. HuD icons are likely more useful to those of us who swap frequently and rely more heavily on the Hud and F1 screens.

Not everyone on the dev team needs to know icons and names of abilities. Some focus on programming, others on art. When it comes to balancing the name isn't important either, only what the ability does. 100% if you asked all of them what abilities each hero has and they do, they'd all be able to answer, even if they didn't know the ability names.

You'd ask me to draw the icons of my characters that I have 2000 hours on and I couldn't do it, I can recognize them but don't take noteo f their specifics. The OW icons for abilities are generic, bland and many of them are confusing. The people that think this means anything beyond being a silly game are very, very dumb. If anything this is testing how bad or good an icon is and how some of the names are silly and irrelevant to the reality of what is intuitive to call them.

Some people are just bad at memorizing pictograms, and it's not like you need to learn them to play the game, most of the time you only look at them to check the cooldown timer

I don’t know how I feel about people who govern the game not even know what the abilites are. I can understand not playing the game cuz their busy monitoring it but at least know some of the iconic hero abilities. If not the name at least the hero abilites of said character.

Don't you think they tweak designs and names countless times over the course of making a hero? Just because us normal players only see the finished version that doesn't mean they automatically forget possibly hundreds of designs for icons and different names they've messed with before settling on the final one. Odds are they shorthand most of the names too just like the rest of the community. Like calling Winston's and Zarya's shields bubbles.
