This was a great episode, I think it will definitely up my dock fishing game. Will have to rewatch and take notes.😂. Good to see Jot made a cameo… one of my hometown heroes👍

Absolutely incredible tutorial, Capt!! Some of the proposed casting spots you mentioned were ones I’ve thrown to. But I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve often approached and casted to these docks from up current (which I am seeing has been a mistake of mine and explains my own personal lack of success on docks). I fish the Anclote area mostly, where drifting for trout is the norm (with regular success), but I’ve ended up limiting my trips to drifting due to failing on structure such as the 100’s of docks near the Anclote River mouth. This video helped immensely, so thank you!! I’ll be giving docks another try next time.

if I may add something. set up by that mangrove and skip a lure under that walkway and work it thru. 2 to 3 feet is a magic depth. for me anyway.

Appreciate the comment… yes where the walkway and main dock meet is always a “juice” zone.

Excellent tutorial. I work docks exactly like this except that I work the up current side also. I've taken more fish off the down current side but the up current side produces too. If docks are close together, the gap in between often holds trout and flounder too.

Yes the zone between docks especially with grass will produce good catch numbers

Might be moving to Tampa next year. Super interesting to see how similar this strategy is to how I fish smallmouth docks

Fishing with a friend I caught a single fish that day and it was a flounder over the river side post where the back of your boat is.

Great video Capt. and very informative! I love dock fishing, as I came from a Bass fishing background. I love flounder fishing and any type of hard structure fishing. Really appreciate the tip about the wash by the boat motor! Do you or would you give a whole lot of attention to floating docks when shade is not as important? Thank you sir!

Great video CA, i've only just started targetting docks in a relatively new area to me, so this will most definitely help in selecting the docks that are the fishiest. Couple of follow up questions How far off from the dock do you stay? I'm still working on my pitching and skipping technique so i dont have great skills yet, but id like to have an idea of just far i need to be away to make dock fishing productive. Second question is lure semevtion, which lures do you prefer and are you using the same lure for fishing the outer structure as you are when youre skipping under abd through the structure and how much weight are using? When skipping under do you let the lure sink on slack line begore retrieving?

Great video but personally I wouldn't waste a lot of time on the outside perimeter of the dock especially in the summertime. In the winter time, definitely, though

I second everything you say, It seems many predator fish act alike. I've told kids make 20+ cast to docks downed trees rock piles. Remember everybody has fish finders now. Fish the stuff others miss, and fish the banks that look like nothing banks. There could be a goldmine hidden just out of sight.

Great video CA. Here's an idea for a new series of videos. Landbased fishing pro tips for zillions of ppl that love fishing but do not own a boat. Using artificial lures, where when to fish what to use and how... etc. Fishing from a boat with a fish finder and a drone is pretty much cheating.

Ray… you made me grin with cheat code comment. Absolutely you have inspired another video!

Fish make decisions based on environmental factors. SaltStrong has some great courses that teach you how to find fish without the tools.

These whiteboard lessons are absolutely fantastic! I really appreciate everything you do for the angling community. I have a bit of a question-I'm an artist starting a career in painted stained glass, and I'd love to find a way to give back to the fishing and outdoor community. My focus has been on wilderness and ocean scenes, game fish feeding, and birds hunting. Captain, do you or anyone watching know of any places on the East Coast that do art consignments? Or perhaps you’re ever looking for giveaway prizes for contests? Or maybe you know a bait shop that has made space for artwork? I’m hoping to build a network of locations where I can show and vend my art from New York to Florida. I’d be happy to email pictures of my work-it’s quite unique and would definitely capture attention. Thanks in advance for any replies here or messages with suggestions or help!" Happy New Year all!
