That’s the best video on the subject I’ve seen, thanks

Very informative. TY. You may want to check the editing room floor for "line twist". That is where I have the most issues. Since thousands of twists are put into the line just loading the spool, wind knots are the worst right after respooling.

Get the shop to do it for you it’s worth the extra money I’ve been spoiling my own reels for 40years and this year I got the shop to spool all my reels boy what a difference

I think it's important to add #4 slack management during the retrieve to address wind knots. Many types of retrieves with rod twitches or sweeps will create slack line that you need to pick up with the reel, if you don't follow that slack with the rod tip and be careful of how your reeling it up, you are creating slack loops on the spool and many opportunities for winds knots

James that definitely has some merit for sure… reeling on slack line definitely brings trouble. It’s why I honestly prefer casting gear!

The way you set and measure your drag is exactly how I’ve done mine for 26 years. Glad I’m doing something right😂

It seems like once you do it that way a couple times you get the perfect feel for what the drag should be without going through entire process

All spot on per usual 😂 the drag thing is something a lot of bass guys seem to struggle with. Several good friends of mine who will always out fish me in freshwater, tend to loose more fish or even fail to get bites in general because the gear is too heavy and they wanna lock that drag down with channel locks 😂😂😂 hell I knew one guy who turned out to HATE saltwater because he was mad he had to let a 40lb cobia run. Said he felt like he was losing, idk. Different strokes i recon. I love the sound of drag personally

That’s wild! I freshwater and saltwater fish. I like saltwater fishing more because of the fight and drag pulling. 🤷🏽♂️

Big user of the 2500’s, especially guilty of using a 7’6”! Now for baitcasters I have mostly 7’ med/hvy and 100 or 150’s all have 30 # braid. Would love to see more of baits and techniques if possible from time to time. Love your channel!

I just got a 7'6" all graphite Ugly Stik Carbon Inshore rod. They just came out, I already had 3 different ones in 7' and I really like those rods. I can't wait to see how the longer one compares. And if I really like using the longer rod I'll get a St Croix or something nice like that in 7'6".

I love my baitfeeder reels that have the dual drags. It helps with getting spooled when you're using live bait

Great video Captain! You mentioned line twist a 2 or 3 times but never addressed it directly that I saw. Am I mistaken about that? The main culprits I think know, are reeling while drag being pulled out by a fish, and some of the slack line issues you mentioned. I would appreciate any additional information you can provide on line twist. Thank you very much!

Great info! I'm guilty of a few of these. Most of my windknots seem to happen when I'm using topwaters...any suggestions to help?? I know its from slack in the line while I'm working it..guessing
@flatsclasscharters11 күн бұрын
Larry, you are right that slack is the culprit but braid weight that is too light on MH spinning rods can create line twist issues. Try stepping up maybe from 10lb braid to 15lb braid for topwater and feather line on the cast, it should help with this issue. And, there’s always the opportunity to get better with a casting reel setup and bypass the issue altogether. Casting gear is a wonderful tool for topwater presentations!
@7bo7at710 күн бұрын
something ive found that helps is closing the bail just before the lure hits the water and never giving the lure any slack while retrieving

What I've done and been doing for not replacing all the line is getting to that line that doesn't see light and blood knot to new line that's a different color. Has worked out great. 300yrd spool can last you a good minute.

I just got a new Daiwa Legalis 2000 or 2500 and I ordered a classic Penn 430SS on eBay. That's what I learned about ultralight tackle with and I missed my old one that disappeared. I'm pretty prepared for the spring when the flounder come back and I can stand to be on the water myself.

Today was wind knot day for me. It was costly because the bite lasted only 90 minutes and I spent too much time cutting and tying knots. Recently switched to Daiwa J-braid. Going back to Power Pro.

Try Diamond Braid it’s perfectly round and it’s the most consistent braid I have ever used… we all underestimate the value of good line.

What is your recommendation for adjusting the drag during battle?
@flatsclasscharters11 күн бұрын
If you have a hard running fish in the open flat you could gently apply pressure with index finger to the spool itself on runs where you have control but take care not to add too much pressure or it will result in a break off for sure
@7bo7at710 күн бұрын
youre better off finding a good hookup drag and just fingering the spool when you get low on line, better to let the fish run if you can afford to let it
@comfortablynumb934211 күн бұрын
If you compare the same brand and kind of rods in 7' and 7'6" how much farther does the longer rod cast? I just got a 7'6" Carbon Inshore Ugly Stik because I like the 7' versions, but I haven't been brave enough to go try it. We have snow on the ground in the shade near the water and inland the yards are covered. I'm from Florida so I'm not a fan of the cold. I'm curious how the extra 6" affects distance.
@flatsclasscharters11 күн бұрын
It really comes down to balance with the lure and line weight being a major part of the equation. But, all things being equal maybe 8-15’ more on distance. Above average casters might be able to squeeze a little more juice out of that 6” advantage

How possibly you can get wind knots on a spinning reel? Spinning reel is a simple reel in the world to use.
