Capt. CA, I’m an avid tarpon fishermen along the panhandle and am a huge fan of the videos. Many of your tips have helped tweak a few key aspects of my strategy and rigs. I will say, and this somewhat pertains to this video, there is a definite “on” and “off” switch with the fish here. Can you induce strikes on the “off” switch? Of course, and most of your rigging and tips pertain to that “off” period, which is awesome because of course capitalizing when fish aren’t fired up is how you produce fish for your business every day. My question is if you do what I do, I keep one rig that is in line with exactly what you preach. Long leader, B2FL knots, natural presentations, etc. BUT I also keep another that throws some of that out of the window in favor of maximizing perhaps the three toughest variables of big tarpon fishing-> keeping a hook set, the rig holding up, and pressuring that fish to keep a fight as fish friendly as possible. Do you have a “fired up” set up with shorter/heavier leader with crimping, larger/wider hooks, rod reel combo that foregoes casting efficiency and presentation in favor of keeping and better pressuring the fish? To the above point, just as there are times where one minor detail prevents a bite, there are times where I can throw a frozen mullet attached to a dock line 10 feet from the motor and a monster takes it within 5 seconds. My setup for this is freelining mullet out into current (and into whatever bait pod is being hammered) from a 10/0 senator spooled with 80lb mono, 100 lb fluoro leader all crimped. Love the videos!
