I'm a rod builder and I'll be sharing this video for all my inshore clients to help them out. Unfortunately different manufacturers don't use a universal metric like CCS so Medium could mean different things, but by and large all inshore anglers should have 1 or 2 7ft M F. My advice is to then grab a dedicated MH ModF/F (for braid on popping for reds and specks for big casts), then a ML XF for finesse bottom contact for specks.

Solid lesson Captain! This past year after becoming a FCU member I've been adding 7' Medium Fast action rods to my collection.

I'm "inline" (some what) with the 7'-7½', M/L to M/H (M/Fst to Fst) rods for a majority of what's explained. But many times I've resorted to building & using 8½'-9' (6wt-10wt) X-Fst fly blanks (as spinning rods) for most all of my flats fishing. And the results have been great. I'd recomend not going any lower in braid line test than the line # wt of the blanks.

Best video I have seen so far for a new comer to inshore fishing like myself, looking for anything to be a good angler!! It was simple, short yet still very comprehensive! Awesome!!

Are you comfortable fighting a 30" snook on 7' medium fast? Big fan of your you tube channel.

I used my 7' medium power fast action rod so much last year that I had to change the tip guide because braid sawed a groove in the original. I have a medium light that I use a lot too but the medium is perfect for a lot of baits. I agree with you.

Yes, I favor 7’ Medium Fast even in my casting rod setups… familiarity makes for smoother, more accurate casts!

That 6’9 XX teramar casting rod you recommended has been money for me.

My do anything rod from 1/8 jigs to Corkys and One Knockers is a 6'9" Waterloo Carbon Mag. Hands down! It feels weird using anything else. I'm going to purchase a 7' soon.

Marcus, because casting rods are more my jam… I’m with you on shorter length rods. But with spinning gear a 7’ rod is a perfect compromise to do it all!

Picked up the Fitzgerald medium fast at tarpon fishing outfitters about 6 weeks ago. I throw a lot of ned rigs and twitch baits. Works great

Loved the video CA, and wow! I have been using that setup for a really long time as my go to. Of course tried several other brands but all in all that was and is the one rod I take every time. I have several 7'6" also but on a kayak I feel it's a bit too long to handle landing fish appropriately. I do gain some casting distance with a 7'6". Since being a member of Flats Class University, I have learned to down size line also which is a game changer. Ty for sharing sir. Chris

That same exact rod but a casting rod is where it’s at for me inshore. I do throw a lot of 27mr and custom baits in the MH though casting rod as well.

We will do one of these on casting rods as we move into Corky season coming up

I’m stuck on my medium heavy for my casting rig for hard baits and spoons. I use medium for my spinning reel for soft plastics. My beach rod is an 8 1/2 ft steelhead spinning rod. I use that to get distance without wading past the first sandbar.

Med Fast even with the treble hooks? Want the fast tip pull the hooks?
@flatsclasscharters10 күн бұрын
Randy it varies from brand to brand… naturally finer wire trebs may be better on Mod Fast but we are talking about one rod that can do most which makes for a little compromise
