They are pretty good, but the Pluerry is still by far the tastiest of the plum hybrids we have.

The best place to buy a flavor finale tree is bay laurel nursery. It's not a stick. Plus citation rootstock is the best for plums per UC Davis.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm2 жыл бұрын
Hey Terry. I imagine Citation may be the best overall, but the challenge we have here is that rootstock really struggles with our high alkaline, calcified, dry soils. Hansen rootstock seems to be our best performer here in AZ as it tolerates dry, alkaline soil very well.

Could you do a before an after on the soil on your way out? I thought the videos from several years ago highlighting how you prep the ground for the trees were really interesting. Curious to know the longer term affect after so long.

Hey Andre. That's a good suggestion. We still have areas of the farm that don't have any amendments or ground cover, so it would be easy to show the difference between that and the soil building around the trees.

I'd like to grow this in Southern California, but I don't think we get enough chill. Dave Wilson says this one is at 500.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm not too sure on that one either. The winter prior to this harvest was remarkably cold with lots of chill hours, so it may not be a consistent harvest for us either. We just planted another one on the new property, so it will be a couple of years before we know if the results are consistent. It really is a very tasty plum hybrid, so we're hoping we see more fruit.

Tom spellman says you can leave those on the trees for another month to 2 months
@EdgeofNowhereFarm3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they can definitely use more time on the tree. We tend to get a bit antsy with the fruit during the summer because of the bird pressure. Eventually they figure out the organza bags can't keep them completely at bay and start tearing through the bags!

@@EdgeofNowhereFarm ah ok so more about not losing them i planted a flavorosa and flavor finale to get the earliest and latest pluots possible and i was kinda hoping to b picking them off the tree in october in NE ohio
@EdgeofNowhereFarm3 жыл бұрын
@@dagobaker ah, gotcha. We have the same idea as far as extending the harvest season with all of our fruits and do the same with multiple varieties across a few types of fruit. With you cooler climate you'll definitely get the chill hours necessary and your season is a couple months behind us, so timing is pretty close to what you're expecting. I'm not sure what it's like for you guys up there, but the bird pressure is the major issue with fruit when it comes to the amount of time they can hang on the tree. If that's not an issue, then you have a solid plan. Just keep an eye on pollination requirements for these guys. Usually a Santa Rosa plum works for the Pluouts.

looking for flavorosa and flavor finale trees found one that has them for 50$ each but 40$ shipping.... so 140$ for 2 trees

Hey Matthew. Check with Reid at RSI Growers here in the Phoenix. I'll leave a link. If not, check the Dave Wilson nursery website and see if you can find a dealer on there. Their trees are shipped bare root starting in January and that may be your best option. RSI Growers; rsigrowers.com/index.html Dave Wilson Nursery; www.davewilson.com/

@@dagobaker where are you located? Most cities have a local Dave Wilson distributor that sells them bare root (or newly potted bare root trees) in the winter/early spring.
