I wasn't able to see much of the game but saw you extended the time to hit 2,500. You may have done it a while ago and it just shows how you deal with reality as-is than as you would like it to be. You also teaches me that any worthy achievement is hard & takes effort. Kudos for always being an exemplary teacher, with your words and more importantly, your actions.

I think this game typifies the inherent early difficulty with the Caro-Kahn - with pretty natural moves, white can get such a forcing initiative.

@@siraf1234 - I’d say this issue with Caro-Kahn early on is it draws your pieces away from the king and to the Queen side - where as whites pawn chain is directing its pieces towards your king side. Yet whenever I see that Alex guy play it, he seems to have no problem!

That was a nice trick by the opponent with Bh7+ - very blitz-like trap. My former coach was not a fan of the Caro-Kann - he said that white has a million options to give black problems, and you will never get experience playing in a narrow set of positions because of that.... Even if you load up on theory, you still have to have the experience in the positions...
@LG-fp9ji2 ай бұрын
The opinion of your former coach does not matter unfortunately, the caro kann is is still played at a very high level . Not so much in classical at the top level but super GMs use it in rapid and blitz and not so super GMs, which still are much better than you and I, use it in classical.
@DarkSideChess2 ай бұрын
@LG-fp9ji maybe my wording is a bit off, I meant to say for a club player. I'm sure it's fine as is any opening , but you just have to be prepared to play a million different positions. You have to be ready for Tal variation, advance, exchange, panov, accelerated panov, 2 knights, and they're all super playable for white.
@bluefin.642 ай бұрын
Engine scores depend on your opponent. I've gotten 98% in bullet games. Not much credit to me, really, my opponents made it automatic. High engine scores happen more often than you'd think, including by players you wouldn't expect to get them. From experience, playing Rd8 instead of Bb7 in order to get the knight to f8 was loud in my head. And you know the rhyme, a knight on f8, there is no mate. This mini plan is also Stockfish's top idea.

Mine too. I usually go for the tartakower setup here also
@wowfly64852 ай бұрын
I like playing the Tartakower but maybe its not as solid at your rating I don't know.
@gratitud1432 ай бұрын
It's solid and provides easy development and plans, while also allowing for combative play. It is the reason, why top players prefer the advanced variation nowadays as white compared to the classical. In case you haven't seen it, I think Grandmaster Neiksans recently covered it in his Caro-Kann Bootcamp video on KZbin

In general with these lines, how does black justify limiting / slowing down development of the light square bishop (vs. 4...Bf5, for example)?
@LG-fp9ji2 ай бұрын
Yeah I was hoping you'd play 20... f5, it was a decent attempt to hold the game by preventing Be4 at least. But it'd be still kinda over. Anyway, keep fighting man! And I recommend you calculate a few moves further past the opening especially when you're hanging a queen, when you said I have Qxe5 on Qh4 you definitely should have seen Bh7+

The only sus move is Bb1 instead of Bc2. I see a reason,(Ba6 could kill the battery) but it took me a while. Other than that moves were easy to spot,he found them and thus the very high accuracy. Dxc5 also needed some calculation but nothing special.
@carlkligerman19812 ай бұрын
I don’t think the accuracy was sus at all. The play was VERY natural, and I play the Caro and have found that generally when I win my accuracy is in the 90s, and when I lose it’s my opponent’s that is high. It’s that kind of game, overall. And Stephen did blunder pretty badly towards the latter middle game.
@gelatinousjoe79792 ай бұрын
I don’t see anything suspect in the game. Very normal play and Stepjan blundered. Definitely don’t know what he means when he says it was a very complicated position. dxc5 was the only moment that called for lengthy calculation, and he used time accordingly.

"12... Bxe5 works" maybe for the engine, but practically speaking this makes your position much more difficult to play. White gets bishop pair with gain of time and always has ideas of chopping on f6. Maybe the engine can hold with that weak kingside structure but it's going to put most humans through a lot of pain.

Why are you saying it's a perfect game when your opponent lost his advantage, gave it to you, got it back, gave it back to you for a short while and then got a winning position when you didn't make a simple pawn recapture? Also you lost to a one move blunder when you could have put up a longer resilience and really tested his ability to convert. Like come on man you can't just look at centipawn and say perfect lol.
