Flea has been dancing for almost 30 years. His experience really showed in that battle. Both dancers are phenomenal, especially shigekix and his ability as well; however this time Flea used that experience and played chess very well. That’s all. Instead of hating on the guy or punking judges who all have deep credibility… Why don’t you ask yourself “ what can I learn from that battle? What is it that I missing and what am I not understanding so that I can improve. “ Always remain a student

In my opinion, this is the most disrespectful battle I've ever seen, and it is disgusting by the judges (minus El Nino). Shigekix won this EASILY Flea rock - Did a continuous headspin (witth a crash), and a light saber routine???? - Did "finger guns" for round 2 - Another repeat of headspins from round 1 and some turtles...no footwork Shigekix - Complete round with going out first, toprock, footwork, powermoves on beat (1990 variation) and ending freeze - Again a complete round of everything - toprock, response to flea rock's ufo, insane shoulder halo freeze on beat, and speedy footwork with the music I agree that Flea Rock is not at fault, the judges who made the biased jugements are wrong. And everyone is allowed to have their own opinions, but mine is very CLEAR. shigekix should have won 5-0 EASY. SHIGEKIX WON THIS BATTLE

We need to appreciate both individual styles here and be grateful to see a match up like this to have these debates. The pure essence of breaking can get lost on huge platforms such as Red Bull. When you see a W from rounds like Fleas, without conforming his style to what the public eye may seem fit (athleticism, power moves, etc.) it’s great for the culture. Let’s have perspective and hope this challenges dancers to be original, practice charisma, and be in the moment. Which normally is overlooked. It’s easier to playback and breakdown the rounds here on KZbin. I’m sure if you watched it live, the energy was unmatched and persuaded the judges decisions. End of the day, dance is subjective. They’re both champions in their own right 💯🤞🏼
@javontaecooper83 жыл бұрын
Good point. I think a lot of people are judging breaking like there is a certain formula or equation you have to do to win. Where many people forget this dance is a battle dance. Where just being good at doing movements doesn’t necessarily mean you can battle.

One of the most educated and properly insightful comments so far. Very well said. After 27 years of breaking I’m sure shigekix would be throwing handstyles and burners as a counter when he can no longer spin the way he does. @@rolfrau5743on top of that this competition doesnt have a round-vote system so battles can be assessed as a whole, not by rounds
Okay here is my problem. It's not with Flea, but with judges , minus El Nino. It seems like people feel like Flea was bringing that "Raw" energy and musicality, and 'freestyle'. But that burn was pre-choregoraphed and didn't go with the music for most parts. On the world stage, everybody has at least combos - if not sets that they run. That burn was pre-meditated and written just like any other set combo. It feels like judges just gave the battle to Flea after the burn - even though it happened in round 2. Also, are we really just pulling out samurai swords on any japanese bboy? I don't know. Respecting the culture. It just suffers from the problem that if a younger person were to do a similar thing it would be judged to a higher standard of scrutiny. Like, we take for granted the flexibility, cleanlinees, and complexity of Shikigex's sets because he performs consistently and judge him against what he usually does rather than against his opponent - I think this happens for other breakers too. Flea was repeating too. Both were running variations of the moves they were repeating, so it's debateable whether points should be taken off. Just, our judging is not consistent and it sucks to see people who clearly have put more recent training in lose on technicalities - while every other battle in the competition was judged on a different scale. No one else had their third automatically disqualified from a second round their opponent did. I agree with a lot of the other commentors. Flea Rock is OG, but Shikigeix out danced him in this battle. People say he's a gymnast, but he does these athletic moves on beat - which is why he won last year's competition. Burns are built into the dance, but so is cleanliness, combos, variations, form, variety, length of set, complexity, difficulty and more. Cros and Ronnie both said it's about showing you can do something your opponent can't do. And Shigekix responded directly to UFO's. IDK just sucks to see hard work be invalidated because of a social norm. It's like burns are a cheat code to beating more athletic opponents and it just don't seem fair to me - and a lot of other people who saw this battle. Respect to everyone. Regardless of who people thought won, I think everyone can agree that this battle stood out among all the other battles that night - at least for the bboy bracket.

Flea had moves that resembled the same output of an MC in a rap battle. It was based on the moment and their specific opponent, not rehearsals or in this case, choreography. Momentum is everything, and unfortunately Shigekix lost his crowd momentum cause flea had him bleeding from "finger gunz". Top battle, regardless. Can't deny that his style, but I hope he comes back with some more burns and emotion.

Pretty surprised Flea Rock got the nod, his second round was great but the first and third were quite sloppy, with a crash in his first and very basic combos in the third. Still, it's nice to see an old school legend like Flea even compete in a comp like this, let alone get as far as he did. Good battle.

Flea Rock's attitude was rude. He even pointed a finger at Shigekix, who is always ALWAYS positive and friendly. He tried to distract his opponent. He also had short rounds, one lets call it öriginal" move, 1 or 2 more basic moves, not so clearly executed.

Unbelievable. A head spin did not guarantee Flea Rock's first entry. And even if he had won the second, with the pistols, the third one he didn't even know what to do, it was left to untie the shoelace of the Shingekix. I liked the guy's performance, it was a surprise, but he didn't win this one. They took out a possible champion for a momentary nostalgia.

I will say this as easy so it translates simple. Bboying is not soulless dance style. If you cannot understand then please take a moment to dig for older clips whether it’s battles or just anything but if you cannot understand how flea won then you are not a bboy. I understand how much time effort, training etc is needed to be doing what shigekix was doing but not about that. We will in a age where if you train hard enough you can achieve these moves. But character and real bboy essence is not in the moves.

The camera position was really terrible, what should the crap from the ground to filming? 90% of the recordings are from the floor, so you can't see a lot of things exactly, I really don't know what these cameramen have studied.

Shigekix had more advanced moves maybe but he was not on beat most of the battle. There's no point in having music if you aren't breaking to the beat. Also resetting in the middle of your set looks sloppy and less refined which is what shigekix did too many times. Also there's a certain length/number of moves to where a set looks most aesthetic. Having a set that's too long looks off/weird.
