Did one of these 2 years ago when I had to replace my trans. Truck would sometimes get up to 210 degrees on 90+ days but now it won't go past 195 even when it is 100 outside.

Installed one in The 4th gen and truck runs 15 degrees cooler it helped that the trans died and it was out. Also the oil temp dropped as well similar to the coolant temp.

Yup, getting that plug out without rapping too hard on the outer portion of the cylinder liner was a pain. I was getting pissed too. hahaha Then just reaching behind the engine the whole time sucked. Got er done though and been working to good in the winters. LOL

The bipass kit really helped levwl out temps across the engine atleast for me💙 and Honestly even if your reinstalling the kit, a new oring pack from fleece is only like $9 so id just get a new oring set and that way you arent messing with silicone at all

Hey man I actually bought one of these Bypass Kits a few months ago, went to a shop to have them install it and they were going to charge 1000 bucks and I figured I would try tackling it myself but havent gotten around to it! Thank you for this video! I just want to ask though, does this install also work on the 4th gen style trucks? I have a 2014 ram I would be installing this on. Thank you!

She’s a bear for sure. I’ve had to tighten my hose at the rear freeze plug every winter now since the initial install. The AN fitting likes to loosen with vibration and heat cycling. A 1”?? crows foot, a 3/8” drive universal and 3” extension, is the only way I’ve been successfully been able to do it without wanting to cut someone. The first time it loosened up, I used a metric wrench from a harbor freight set. Line wrench set I think they call them. Large sizes open ended narrow buggers. With a pry bar flipping the wrench several times worked too but loosened up again the following year. Also, Two years is all I got out of the hose, because it sits over the exhaust. Sprung a leak. Went from the SS braided hose, to the black nylon braid this time. Hoping for longer life out hold it this time.

My hose leaked with in 2000 miles. Flece sent me a new one no charge at least. I ended up wrapping it in vibrant hose insulation. And installed it with a -10 AN wrench. Mine is a 2nd gen with compounds. Very tight spot with a 480 hanging low. Not fun to replace the hose. You can't see it. Have to do it by feel. Seems like they have a lot of hose failures. If my new one leaks I'm going to a hydrolic hose.

What are your thoughts on the Mayhem Metal Works bypass? Much easier to install and no thermostat to fail in the future. I’ve installed a few of them but they weren’t my trucks so I don’t have any feedback on how they worked.

@horsetorquesdiesel in your opinion what do you think about running a 165 marine T stat and using the truck to tow 20k trailer. In northeast ? 2006 5.9 with the 48 not towing very often either.

I’ve heard some people say they aren’t worth it. That it’s not necessarily, and it’s $350 that can be better spent t on something actually better like a billet Water pump! The stock water pump impeller is plastic! Like come on Cummins! Everything else is over built, and you go and put plastic blades in the water pump! The billet water pump is a master piece of cnc matching!

I put a fleece bypass in my 0659 Cummins cause I was doing a lot of towing with it with a manual transmission. I put mine in when I did the transmission. Yes it does help but there is one issue with those if you do not have the right proper thermostat in the backside of it Won’t heat up the motor properly low the motor to burn all the fuel in the Sonos probably will burn more fuel through the system. The thermostat is a Chevrolet motor. I put a 200° thermostat in the back of mine and it runs just fine. I put a 195 to 200° in the front for the main thermostat as well and I’m never had a problem. Overheating or trying to keep it warm when it’s been 18° out up in the mountains only problem I’ve had with mine is the hose. The hoses rubbed on the backside of the cylinder head and the exhaust had to go down and had one made up heavy duty and make sure it was an extra three or 4 inches longer so it would make that proper bend around the corneron the backside of the head and yes, you can put the block on the backside of the motor and then put the hose on. I’ve done it multiple times that way it just takes a little effort to do it, but you can do it.

The thermostats are different than stock to prevent the issue you just said, the hose is long enough to make a loop to keep it from the exhaust. Sounds like a botched install.

My problem with the bypass is your putting a thermostat in basically an unserviceable spot.
@bernhard8540
@bernhard8540 2 ай бұрын
You dont have to have the thermostat in it if you dont want, it can be installed without the thermostat. But It's pretty easy to service, I've had mine installed on both my 3rd gens basically since fleece came out with the kit and I havent had any issue with the thermostat 😅 I have changed a few for customers who just wanted it changed along with the stock thermostat just because, I mean to service it its three bolts and its out.. they made the outter piece removable so you don't rwmove the whole thing, there are three allen head bolts that you remove and pop the thermostat out.
