Looks new to me, you guys do a great job of keeping this apparatus in primo condition. Nice brush engine. I like the idea you can lay down water in front of the truck to protect your tires from heat damage too. That is a 4x4 too I presume too. Nice review of this vehicle. Great video too.

What a sweet rig, do the brush trucks carry things like extra radio batteries for longer calls or will the incident dispatch team take care of that stuff?

A little of both. There are extra VHF radio batteries on the truck and IDT will bring extra radios and batteries. Additionally, the Battalion and District Chief vehicles carry extra radio batteries.

Thanks! We plan on showing some of the older reserves by popular request. If you look closely in the hand tool compartment there's a Halligan hiding behind the fusee's.

This rig is almost as old as South Metro itself, at least the name! Once upon a time, it was running out of 36s in Castle Pines, alongside the 2000 Kenworth/E-One tender now stationed at 41s. I mention this because the latter is the oldest of South Metro's tenders and the department recently took delivery of a new one from Pierce, so...is there a Fleet Friday episode in the works for the new Tender 41 (once its put in service, and assuming that's where it's headed) or is it similar enough to Tender 39 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4XVgnicfcx_opI BE40 also ran out of 39s for a while, to tie all the loose ends together) that featuring it would be redundant?

All correct! The new Tender 41 is identical in functionality to Tender 39, but the Kenworth cab looks little different with their new styling.

@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Maybe one of these days you'll create a video highlighting how South Metro utilizes their tender fleet. There aren't many departments in the US who've earned an ISO Class 1 PPC rating, including ones with hydrant coverage throughout their territory. That South Metro achieved that rating even in their hauled water areas offers lessons every fire department can learn from.

Engine 40 is a Paramedic unit with advanced life support equipment. Brush Engine 40 is only dispatched to vegetation fires so it is not equipped with EMS gear. The Engine(s) or Medic that responds with them to the fire will provide EMS equipment, if needed.

The Battalion, District and Safety F-150's are all equipped with push bars to move vehicles, if necessary. Following best practices in traffic incident management, sometimes the safest way to handle an accident scene is by pushing disabled vehicles out of traffic. Normally law enforcement will do it, but sometimes there's a need for SMFR.

Yes, a new Brush Engine is on order and will look like Brush Engine 20. The new one may get assigned to Station 39 and if that happens, the current Brush Engine 39 will move to Station 40.

I know it is in Colorado and they are used to the cold but too bad he has to do Fleet Friday in the cold weather couldn't they have done it inside the Station instead of outside in the cold

Notice he was only wearing a hoodie and a ball cap and no gloves and it was snowing during his walk around. This is completely normal in Colorado. Weather that people would be wearing parkas and gloves, in Colorado we would be wearing shorts and T Shirts. I was out on my tractor yesterday plowing snow wearing jeans and a hoodie for 2 hours. 😎👨‍🚒

Why is engine 40 in a spare

Engine 40 has been reassigned into one of the Pierce tandem axle pump tenders. Their new engine was reassigned to Engine 19 and that engine was reassigned to Engine 21. Engine 21's previous tank capacity was only 500 gallons and Operations determined they needed a larger, 750 gallon water tank. Since their engine wasn't due for replacement for several years, this switch made the most sense.
