Stevie was very sweet and very compromising. I wonder if she left a lot of feelings in to just get along and since some knew more than she did she probably just complied. That's why Stevie probably ended up being a tough woman in the latter years. Hurt either toughens you up or makes you mean. Now I see videos were Stevie gets on Lindsey and tells him that's the way I want to do my music because it's my music. when you're your very innocent and naive people take advantage of you but what they don't know is they're toughening you up because you learn some good lessons from it and become stronger or you don't. Stevie became stronger and all the knowledge that she was given in the music business and in relationships is why she's so successful now and doesn't put up with crap. That's probably why she left and went solo.
@beebooponthenose72258 жыл бұрын
Stevie at this point had most of the press attention and the only number one single in the U.S. By most accounts, Stevie didn't do much in the studio other than sing and would write in her downtime. I bet that frustrated the shit out of them to know after all their hard work, Stevie got the mainstream praise. That being said though, her magnetism and star power is what got them a good amount of attention, because she has such a magnificent gift and that should have been recognized and understood. They were young and on drugs though so I'm sure their egos got the best of them. Also, I read somewhere that Christine was really pissed at Stevie for the Mick Fleetwood affair because she was friends with his wife so that may explain the snarkiness in her "angels in the background" comment. Thank God this was all recorded. So fun to watch all these years later. :-)

Christine McVie once said in an interview that after awhile Stevie Nicks began to believe her own hype. I liked Stevie Nicks, and in some ways still do, but after seeing that her countless photograph sessions (and selfies) were just rip-offs from the Boyd sisters during their modeling career in the late 60's and early 70's, I started to realize she wasn't unique at all and that it was all an act with the complete dedication to an image. In some interviews, Stevie Nicks talks about herself almost in the third person, as though the real woman is lost somewhere beneath the facade and the same old story-line. Considering she was copying poses from Jenny and Patti Boyd back in the day, I'm not surprised she had an affair with Jenny's husband without regard to whether she was causing damage to others or not. I agree all their egos got the best of them.
@matchbox420.8 жыл бұрын

downthestreetteam Hi. I hope this link works here on YT www.minimadmod60s.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=14166 If you scroll down to row 7, second picture taken of Jenny Boyd in the late 60's, early 70's, you can see that Stevie Nicks copied the exact pose inside the Tusk album. Excluding the mini-mod fashion images of the mid-60's in the collection of photographs, you can see the ironically similar poses in the latter 60's. It's not that Stevie Nicks is as fault for liking the gypsy style of that era and adopting it as her own style, it's that she actually had poses and themes copied. Here's another link of Patty Boyd photographs, although some of them seem to be a combination of both sisters. Just look through all of them carefully and see if you don't see some similarity. www.minimadmod60s.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=21084 But people view things differently. You may not see them the same as I do. I just felt disappointed a bit in Stevie Nicks because she never really acknowledged the sisters as an inspiration to her style and images. Let me know if the links work.

I gotta say this so reminds me of me with writing and recording. It's like I'll have written the entire song, lyrics/melody/harmonies/guitar chords, recorded it on a scratch track-- but once it leaves my hands to go into my bands to lay down the rest of the instrumentation tracks-- it's like I don't even exist anymore! It must have been very frustrating for Stevie working with Lindsey after the breakup--it's like when she went solo she was able to really have the freedom to do what she wanted.

Like others, I find this clip fascinating to watch Lindsey and Stevie interact. Without directly saying..or maybe she has, I don't know..but music is priority 1 in her life. And while on a personal or romantic level, she may not have any interest in Lindsey at this point, you can tell she looks at him for guidance and approval when it comes to her music. The respect she has for Lindsey as a musician and producer, still trumps whatever bitter feelings she has for him personally. I assume she maintained it throughout all these years until it didn't matter to her anymore, and Fleetwood Mac just became a touring band replaying the same hits she's long mastered. No more need Lindsey. That's my take from the clip.

She relied on him to arrange and produce her songs in a way no one else was as good at (and that’s according to Stevie herself), as well as to provide genius guitar accompaniment and gorgeous harmonies. And don’t forget on eg the Mirage album, when Stevie was in the studio for a total of only TWO WEEKS out of the year it took to produce, Lindsey had to finish writing the snippets of lyrics she sent, and manipulate snatches of her vocal tracks so it sounded like one song. The album Tusk was Lindsey's disillusionment with success, music business, and the overall direction of the band. In a word, he wanted out of Fleetwood Mac. He imposed his will knowing full well the band needed him more then he needed them (at that time). For the time, Tusk was a commercial failure not because of the album sales but because it didn't surpass the Rumours album, which is completely ironic because Lindsey knew that wasn't possible or realistic. For me, Tusk is my favorite FM album. The double album way ahead of its time.
@ronnykmarshall4 жыл бұрын
It was impossible to surpass Rumors in sales. It's still one of the biggest selling records of all time. Tusk was a huge directional change. Overall it's a brilliant record.
@stannis7684 жыл бұрын
Ronny K Marshall - absolutely. However, Tusk was sorta commercially doomed because of bad marketing strategies. For example, prior to its release, Westwood One Radio Network, played the album in its entirety. The event was advertised and hence “thousands” of copies were obtained (recorded) directly from the radio program. Second, the double album was quite expensive for its time. A better marketing strategy would have been to release it as a “two album set” ...one album at a time perhaps 6-8 months apart (Sorta like Tusk One & Tusk Two). In all, Tusk sold 4 million copies, which makes it a an overwhelming commercial success but falling short of “commercial” expectations.
@itsakittyxox Жыл бұрын
Mine too. Sonically it’s miles above any pop album of its time.
@DrMackSplackem Жыл бұрын
@@stannis768 I don't think the radio bootleg event hurt too much, back then. I can't tell if you already know this, but as Fleetwood told Caillat (when pressed about the dubious market viability of a double album priced at ~$17.00 in 1979), "Imagine an album sleeve which can fit two discs, but only contains one, and sells for about the price of a single. Six months later, we release part II in a sleeve which can be inserted into the first, completing the package." IMO, that would've helped, a lot. This concept was thought of ahead of time, and could have been accomplished easily with the cache they had with Warner at that time. Why it wasn't followed through to completion is anybody's guess, and Tusk languished. In the end, flawed as it was in execution, it remains a great album nonetheless.
