It's because Fleetwood Mac had left the pre Buckingham Nicks catalogue alone for so long, alot of newer Mac fans aren't familiar with it. That and alot of casual concert goers who are probably just familiar with Rumors and Tango In The Night.

Fleetwood Mac has had so many good songs. 1st gen Peter Green era, Bob Welsh era gen 2. Buckingham-Nicks gen 3, with Christine part of Gen 2 and 3 and all the interaction s after that. It’s ashamed that many people only know the Buckingham- Nicks era with all the interactions of that.

Well yea, in the earliest year or two of the BN era of the Mac, but mostly out of necessity since they had not produced enough material of their own to fill out a set. After the first couple of years, the only song that made an occasional appearance was Oh Well.

@markb3806 6 жыл бұрын
I've also wondered why they played so little through the years of the songs that Christine McVie wrote before the BN era. She was still in the band after Stevie and Lindsey joined! Early on they played Spare Me a Little and Why but eventually dropped those. She had some great songs from the earlier days that were never played live to my knowledge; Did you Ever Love Me, Dissatisfied, Homeward Bound, Remember Me or any of her contributions to Future Games or Heroes are Hard to Find.

You're right. This is where Neil's strenght lies: in soft pop songs. (I like several of Neil's own songs.) ... But when it comes to Lindsey's OWN songs "Go Your Own Way" and "Second Hand News", plus Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" (where Lindsey and Stevie used to share lead vocal duties), Neil comes short. Noone can sing (and play) those songs like Lindsey can.

@TheJohnnyCotts

I'd love to know how they decide who gets in with a band induction. Sometimes they only induct the classic lineup, sometimes they induct everyone. When the Rolling Stones got inducted, they included Ian Stewart, a guy who wasn't officially a member of the band once they started making records. When the Grateful Dead were inducted, they included lyricist Robert Hunter. When the Moody Blues went in, they included Denny Laine (who was only on their first album, a record that too many don't even remember) but not Patrick Moraz. In the case of Fleetwood Mac, I can understand leaving out Bob Welch and Bob Weston, as that period (post-Peter Green, pre-Stevie Nicks) was their least successful era. They were barely selling enough records to keep their record deal.

About time they did stuff like this again. To be fair I did read they planned older stuff while Lyndsey was still with them

Now THAT is (finally) a song I'd pay to see performed by this 'lineup'. (the rest of it I just don't know)

Saw them in Feb this year. Sounded fantastic. Love FM and Stevie NIcks. Get well wishes to Buckingham. He had recent heart surgery I've read.

One good thing about the new lineup is at least they don't play the same twenty songs that they have playing for the last twenty years.

This guy did a much better rendition and tribute to Welch on this tune than Lindsey ever could.

supposedly fleetwood wanting to do the older songs was a point of contention with buckingham........they could add "spare me a little' by christine one of her great songs pre nick/buck

I didn't know that about Buckingham....many tunes pre Buckingham were as good or superior to anything he wrote. Spare me a little is one such gem....one of my favourite Christine McVie tunes.

Great tune, and well sung by Neil Finn. It's a shame that Fleetwood Mac only played it 6 times, right at the beginning of their 2018-19 world tour. They made a lot of noise before they hit the road, about playing material from their entire career, but most of those earlier tunes fell out of the setlist as the tour went on. Unfortunately, the people paying big bucks to see them in giant venues want the big hits, and not songs from their past that they don't know, even if they are great. Sad.

Thanks to Neil and his great rendition of this song this song. Bob Welch is still alive despite Lindsey Buckingham.
