Imo it's nothing but a short miracle that the band came out of the sessions alive when recording this song! There were some major tensions between the members and they all, mor or less, cheated on eachother with eachother! Then add some huge amounts of coke...

Go back and look at the intensity of the stares that Lindsey and Stevie do with each other. You can see and feel the angst and personal feelings of those lyrics sung by the former lovers. It was a long and tumultuous relationship that didn't end well. But it led to some of best songs ever written in my opinion. I could always feel that tension between them when I was close to the stage when I saw them in concert.

Especially in the live video of silver springs. If I was Lindsey I would have been scared out of my mind the way stevie was just eying him down and singing to him.

@@dillonsronce2583 Yeah that tension and animosity has lasted 50+ years to the point that Stevie refused to be on stage with him and had him fired from Fleetwood Mac. They replaced him with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn for their last tour. I like both musicians but it wasn't near the same. Sould have called it Fleetwood Mike and friends tour!

@DucdePommfrit-bi1gd Жыл бұрын
@@patrickmitts4903 That is one version though Mick Fleetwood said the reason they let him go was because he was stalling on agreeing to tour that had been planned for 18 months and they needed to move on, some dispute about the material they wanted to play.
@caps689
@caps689 Жыл бұрын
@@DucdePommfrit-bi1gd That was a lie by Fleetwood and Nicks . Buckingham signed the contracts. WB pushed back the release of his solo album and Buckingham initially asked for 2-3 months to tour. The contracts allowed 6 month leeway. They wound up starting the tour later than if they had accepted Lindsey's request. Stevie who just had the 50th anniversary tour bumped a whole year to extend her 24k Gold tour refused (just as she bumped the tour for a whole year in 2012 to extend her solo tour another year). Buckingham withdrew his request and asked if he could perform his solo shows in between FM dates because Stevie wanted at least 2-3 days between each show. His request wasn't even entertained. After Music Cares he was fired over the phone by his so called manager Azoff - telling him Stevie never wanted to be on stage with him again. The rest of the band ghosted him - not answering his calls or e-mails. Only John texted him saying he was told not to talk to him. They knew they could be sued. Christine later e-mailed him saying she was sorry but she just bought a house (they did the firing behind Christine's back so she couldn't influence John - who's arm Mick said he twisted over 3 days - and told her majority rules - though legally it didn't) Buckingham successfully sued them for $12-14m for breach of contract. They said they'd be happy to see him in court then settled in 3 weeks without even getting an NDA. Later Fleetwood said it happened because "they" weren't happy. The entire band except Stevie had just worked on and released an album together in 2017. It was only Stevie who wasn't happy because she unilaterally declared in 2016 there would never be another FM album. That kept spineless Mick from using the name but releasing it as Buckingham/McVie was enough to wound her ego that she wanted Buckingham out. Of course Fleetwood was so unhappy with Buckingham when the tour was over he was talking about working with Lindsey again. John later said it was bad mistake and Christine always said she loved Lindsey and working with him - that he was the best. Their former manager Dunstan just did an interview on Spotify saying 6 months before Lindsey was fired after Music Cares (Jan 2018) he was talking to Fleetwood about Finn as one of Lindsey's replacements and that Stevie had already chosen Campbell and declared she never wanted to work with Lindsey again. So all those other floated excuses of her being upset at Music Cares because Lindsey supposedly smirked (while Mick and Chris were waltzing) were bull. That there are photos of Stevie clinging to Lindsey - her arm wrapped around his at Music Cares when she was deep in a 6 month or more process of getting him fired is revolting. That they did all this behind his back then tried to blame him publicly for it is just ugly. A terrible and sad end to the band.

I'm actually quite shocked that you haven't reacted to this already. Such a great song and that iconic outro has been the theme tune to Formula 1 racing on British TV since God was a child. One of my favourites. I've got quite a lot of "favourites" though. I have to be honest, this wasn't favourite version. Maybe because I wasn't familiar with it.

As far as Fleetwood Mac goes, they are the best, you haven't seen s##t yet, I love Stevie Nicks on this song, but listen to Stevie on Silver Springs, or Lindsey Buckingham on I'm so afraid, or Christine Mcvie on Songbird, all Fleetwood classics. Fleetwood Mac !!! The band that could script a soap opera for decades. The album Rumors is about the cheating & different hook ups going on. The problem between Stevie and Lindsey actuality started before they joined the band. Stevie cheated but she did say that Lindsey was controlling. In some of the Rihanna videos you can see them glaring at each other. But they stuck together as a group a made hits.

LOVE this song, thanks Rebeka. There's a lot behind this song. I've read that it was not only about Stevie & Lindsay's breaking up, but that the band would should link them all together and that chain should never be broken. In short, argue and fight but don't compromise the band. This is why to me it's the most important and my favourite off the Rumours album. Add to that it is the only song off this album that credits all 5 of the 1977 band lineup on the one song.

cool - I never heard this live performance before - and I was around in 1982. Usually live performances don't measure up - not as enjoyable as the studio recordings. This one is better than most live performances. I know that being there in the live audience its a hugely fun and enjoyable experience. But without the ambience you get in a live audience - listening and watching in a video of the event the songs are not that enjoyable - usually. One more thing about this live performance - until this I never knew how much the music (especially the long intro) is influenced by Mississippi Hill Blues.

There were 3 singers of Fleetwood Mac - Lindsey Buckingham (guitar/ vocals), Stevie Nicks (vocals) and (the late) Christine McVie (keyboards/ vocals)... Each would write songs separately and bring them to Fleetwood Mac - 'The Chain' was a rare song credited to all 5 members (including bassist John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood). 'The Chain' was originally a ballad that Stevie Nicks wrote: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j17Ck3qFrt-IaJY I assume that Fleetwood Mac heard it and decided to re-write it w/ Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie adding their parts and lyrics... When they jammed it at rehearsal, John McVie's bassline and Mick Fleetwood's percussion parts made it onto the track. Ultimately, the final version of 'The Chain' was far superior than the demo... It was part of the magic that Lindsey Buckingham could produce in the studio. Christine McVie wrote a song 'Hold me' for a later Fleetwood Mac album, and Lindsey tweaked certain parts of it and made it even more memorable... adding his vocals to her song.
@caps689
@caps689 Жыл бұрын
Yes, The Chain was made from multiple different parts but it developed from Christine's song Keep Me There kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3vddJSblKx0pLs Stevie's The Chain (Demo) only provided the chorus lyrics that Lindsey asked for and she complained he was ripping the heart from her song (which it was - she couldn't use that song later without that chorus) .

They all wrote the song - he wrote half the lyrics (the verses) and at least a good half of the music, arranged and produced it. Stevie never made Lindsey do anything musically - she couldn't because he was the leader in the studio and then the musical director on stage. Her songs in FM were lyrics with skeleton melodies (her words). He and the band made them into records. It was a BAND - not Stevie and her back up musicians.

The song started out as Christine McVie's (singer, songwriter, keyboards) Keep Me There and her music remains under the chorus and partially at the end. John McVie's bass-line came from another piece he was writing but was incorporated into Keep Me There along with Lindsey jamming the guitar outro. Lindsey (singer, songwriter, guitars) asked Stevie (singer, songwriter) for her chorus lyrics (If you don't love me now) from a song she was writing called The Chain - completely different music and verses. At the time she complained he was ripping the heart out of her song but gave it to him. (later she changed her story as per her usual and said she gifted them all to the band because Lindsey and Christine struggled to write any...) Lindsey wrote the verse lyrics (Damn your love, damn your lies - not Nicks lyrics by any stretch), the music under the verses which come from the guitar intro and the guitar outro. This song almost didn't make the album until Lindsey figured out how to pull a musical thread from the bass-line backwards, then added the intro from his old song Lola with Fleetwood playing the drums (the only music on this song actually recorded together) and then spliced the music with the engineers with razor blades under the verses. It literally became a "chain" of lyrics and music from different members of the band. and their band anthem of staying together for the music. FYI - just three singers in this iteration - the lead singer/songwriters: Lindsey, Stevie and Christine. Though there were at least 2 songs where Lindsey used John as backup vocals

I saw them at what was then called the tangerine bowl in Orlando in 1977, or possibly 78. A storm came through and it rained freaking hard. It was a great concert.

Hi gorgeous, this is the perfect video to react to. While there was turmoil in the whole band at this point, the animosity and tension between Stevie and Lindsey was over the top.
