Peter Green's 10 minute solo on the Fender Bass VI? One of the most underrated guitarists of all time on one of the most underrated instruments of all time. Awesome is too small a word.

Hey Colin you still there? OK, so i always thought it was a bass solo (tho by McVie), but then someone told me it was a regular 6 string where PG was using the bottom strings. BUT i had the original broadcast, and the mongy emcee actually says, "Peter Green changed guitars with the speed of an eagle". He's clearly got a wah wah for the bass bit. Is the high-pitched end bit also on bass? I guess so. Don't spose there's any footage of this or similar - not that i'm totally obsessed or anything... :-) And finally, why he fudge was PG doing a solo on a bass? How long had he been doing that for? Soz 4 all the questions.x :-)

I knew that Peter would play these awesome Bass solo's on "Green Manaleshi". An anecdote I heard when Aerosmith was talking about their love for them was that Danny Kirwan would play one as well. Triple bass attack. It appears, from looking at the guitar, that the option to use it as more of a "baritone guitar" instead of a true bass is there. Just....spitballing, but I suspect that is what is going on.

I've not seen any footage, but there's several pictures online. Search Peter Green Bass VI. That should bring up a pic or two. You can actually hear him flicking the pickup switches from time to time in this recording. I own 2 Squier versions of this instrument and they're awesome.

@@colinmoore5991 Yes I love the sound of the switch flicking! I used to think he was tapping the guitar body! It actually fits into the rhythm! Yes baritone guitar is a good way to describe it I guess.

This is simply mind blowing. Peter Green exhibits a direct connection between his head, hands his fingers and a higher power. The genius of Peters playing shows that he was a spiritual being open to many ways of expression. The Green God is showing us why dispute his passing his music will live on. RIP Mr. Green

A rare example of the instrument playing the player. By that I mean the feedback that occurs when a string is plucked and the resulting vibration is not only sound but the vibration is felt in the spinal cord. It becomes a spinal chord, resonating up and down till it becomes connected to the higher power of ? The green manalishi? 😂 Namaste 🙏

I recorded this off the BBC radio in about '87 when i was 16 coz my cousin was into the Mac. The Green Manalishi blew my brain completely.. and still does. I played it to whoever would listen.. "with the lights off" - one lad would take the p1ss. I'm just glad that it's finally in the public domain again, coz i lost my TDK D90 copy a while ago! As mentioned below, it's way way more powerfult than the Boston Tea Party gig, i spent some very hard-earned cash on that trying to get hold of this version on vinyl. Eventually the BBC released it, but faded it out! Only the Beeb could be so stupid.. I subsequently became a massive Hendrix & Cream fan (not to mention early Floyd, Zep, Free, Purple etc etc) but this one song for me is the ONE piece of music, if i had to choose. There is no soloing like it, it's unearthly. Seriously, if anyone knows of anything like it please can they say, because i want to hear it!

I feel you bro/sis! Although I would have to say the the Grateful Dead suppoert slot version is a much more powerful performance than the Boston Tea Party gig. But and I mean but strongly, this is the best version of Green Menalisihi, that I've found. Only just the other day, having worn out my original LP. Beautiful performance. So awesome to fins another to appreciate and to compare and contrast. By far, imhon, the greatest Peter Green & Fleetwood mac track. I am a big fan of raw performance, hence my reasoning for this track. :)

The only cover of this that comes close to doing it justice is Arthur Brown's Kingdom Comes Version but no one beat this & without Peter Green I simply can't acknowledge Fleetwood Mac as what it was as it obviously had a massive regression after their leader, lead guitarist, songwriter & singer left.

Live April 9th 1970, Paris Theatre, London recorded by BBC radio. The entire BBC broadcast is out now on vinyl, as well as; 'Live at The Roundhouse Chalk Farm' April 1970. Peter had given in his notice by this point, the imfamous 'Munich incident occurred on 22nd/23rd March 1970, with Peter giving his notice to quit shortly afterwards. BBC recorded many live performances at that venue, including; Deep Purple, and Motorhead.

So the video footage spliced in toward the end is of the band's arrival in Europe just before Peter purportedly cracked up at the commune in Germany somewhere. The Bader-Meinhof dude and his supermodel girlfriend Uschi Whatshername cast as the villians, the Green Manalishi. I'm curious how long after this event, Peter kept his incomparable skills... how long was the the path to the decrepitude of his latter solo work.
