People often think that the Peter Green story is the most tragic part of the band’s history but it wasn’t it was Danny Kirwan. He never gets the credit he deserved. On this track alone he literally created the sound for what Mac went on to earn millions. He got short changed. Probably the most underrated guitarist and songwriter ever.

I first got into Peter Green as most people have , but soon realized I identified with and really appreciated Danny’s approach to music way more. His albums with Fleetwood Mac have become so special to me over the years. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to experience any of this great music first hand.

Danny Kirwan kept this band afloat after P.G. and Spencer left. So much great material in a few short years. Title track of 'Bare Trees' might just be the hardest rock F.M. ever put out. Dueling guitars between Danny & Bob Welch with a heavy bass line from John.

They could not release this song or the entire heavy metal world would have been shamed . Danny shows how it is done , and Danny's chant also reminds us that after 14 or 15 years old one moves on from the banal noise of the judas priests , megadeaths etc.

I did something & you ought to try it to, with this song. Open it up as a stereo track then seperate to two mono tracks (channels). Invert one of the channels then mix both into one mono track. Save this/keep it open. Then open the regular stereo track here. Play/mix that mono track with the stereo track. The power guitar chords really stand out, making the song quite heavy.
@MeIasKhole4 жыл бұрын
Nice! You ought to post it up as a “fan remaster” for those of us too lazy to recreate it ourselves
@larrylanberg35524 жыл бұрын
@@MeIasKhole I might do that. Its great fun too. But this polarity inversion method only works good on certain songs. "Morning Rain" is another where that trick brings the song to life.

trfesok I’d guess he means Trinity College, Oxford (or Cambridge, both have a Trinity College) because he says “came down from Trinity”. Very posh English people say “went up to University/Came down from University” instead of just “went” and “came back”.
@rumblebars5 жыл бұрын
Strong song here, but I can see why they left it off of Bare Trees. Danny was great at writing instrumentals but not so much at words, which is why songs like Dust exist and even those are repetitive. This one is also lacking in lyrical depth, repeating the same way that "Dust" did, and with two similar tracks at hand, I think they chose to include the better of the two. Still I think this was good enough to make the record at the time.

He was a world class writer of melody, an excellent guitar player, and good singer. Lyrics were his Achilles heel. This song perfectly encapsulates those facts.
@Diostillrocks2 жыл бұрын
Kirwan didn't write the lyrics to "Dust". It was from a poem by Rupert Brookes. Kirwan may have changed a couple of words here and there, but he left a lot of the poem alone.
