You know you've written one of the greatest songs when you're playing in an iconic band that has nothing to do with that song but 80,000 people are singing it word for word

I'm going to a Crowded House concert, my second, in Sept. I am as excited as I was 28 years ago. They are my all time favorites, and this song always causes a lump in my throat.

Yes a song that has absolutely no connection with Fleetwood Mac whatsoever.....since they were a English ( not kiwi) blues band in 1967!!
@keithmoon883811 ай бұрын
@shanebriggs1039 The fact that it's not originally a Fleetwood Mac song, yet the entire crowd are belting it out, pretty much sums up how good the song is. If it moves someone, what's the problem?

You know a song is top shelf when a band like Fleetwood Mac plays it on stage and it was originally released AFTER they had made it big. That is talent recognizing talent.

I like Fleetwood Mac and Neil Finn. This song is one of my all time favorites, along with some fantastic songs, like Silver Springs, but this version left me cold and Neil should have just finished singing it. The best version is when he sang this live at the Opera House, that was kind of a tear jerker if you care about our world. "I hope they hear you"" it's an Opera House performance thing.

Afraid I have to agree. And if we're being honest, it wasn't his greatest vocal performance... Maybe they had monitor issues??

There is freedom within There is freedom without Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup There's a battle ahead Many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road While you're travelling with me Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win Now I'm towing my car There's a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion But there's no proof In the paper today Tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the TV page Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win Now I'm walking again To the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only shadows ahead Barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and release Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us You know they won't win Don't let them win (Hey now, hey now) Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now Don't let them win (They come, they come) Don't let them win (Hey now, hey now), yeah Hey now, hey now

Why is Neil Finn not in the Rock n Roll HOF? It is a disgrace that I simply cannot tolerate 😢 He is a master singer/songwriter / arranger etc with a 40 year career and they put in ------- ??? you can fill in the blank with other 100 names easily that should feel ashamed and declare their apologies to him. I am American and his contributions to my musical tastes are 1000 fold more significant. Listen to his music and read his lyrics and see how unfathomable this gross omission is.

When Crowded House reunited in 2016, Neil Finn explained that he's happy to keep playing this one. He told ABC: "I really enjoy singing it every time I do it, and I'm super pleased and proud that the song that is almost the most identifiable for us is, I think, one of my best songs."
