I was a second owner of a "67 Firebird. Way back when! It was already considered a "collectors" item at 10 years old. My first car. I raced and beat a Trans-Am...he knows who he is! In Canada! I love that car still. Long gone. I paid $1,200 for it!

I had a '67 Firebird 400 back in the early 80's. Mine is easily in the running for most god awful 67 ever. It was gold with white seats and a white vinyl top. Ugly as original sin but fast as hell. I knew a Pontiac dealership mechanic that knew how to up the HP to the same as the 400 GTO. straighten the secondary linkage that was bent by the factory to only allow them to open 90%

The rear spoiler is too high on the trunk lid. My 68 came with the spoiler installed by the dealer and they remove the PONTIAC and the 400 to install the spoiler correctly.

It never originally came with a rear spoiler. That was a Camaro option only.

I realize this car has gone down the road quite a while ago, but there are some weird things you did to this car. The '68 firebird 350 HO air cleaner instead of the louvered pancake air cleaner. The Camaro trunk mat that covers the trunk floor extensions. The 67-8 firebird only covers the lower trunk floor. The Z-28 front air dam and the forward mounting of the trunk/rear spoiler to not cover the trunk lettering and engine callout. Owner #2 of my car mounted the spoiler in the standard Camaro position but moved the lettering to the back surface of the spoiler He said the spoiler matched the 4-4-2 trumpet exhaust tips. Ugh.

theo raptis i'm sure you already knew this, but what a lot of folks aren't aware of, is that an individual who worked for Pontiac at that time (he was , i *think*, in charge of design) was charged with the task of differentiating the design and shape of the Firebird from the Camaro .... This man said, quote, "I want the car to have more of a European look" and he changed the front bumped, among other details...... His name was John DeLorean..!

The 400 turbo is an excellent choice. Especially when it's got the factory "HIS/HERS" shifter.

I had one of these and TRUST ME, that 400 trans with the 400 ci and the original quad has BALLS, no manual trans needed, NOBODY beat me in my Firebird!

The Turbo 400, along with the TorqueFlite 727, were among the best built transmissions of that era. Got a story to share: A friend of my brother back in the early 80s took me for a drive in his 67 Firebird. He had swapped in a 72 Pontiac station wagon 455 and modded it a bit. While taking her out for a spin, the car backfired with a large bang and fire shot out from the 4bbl dp Holley. We were going about 60 on a side street in suburban Cleveland and still accelerating. His brakes were rather weak (4-wheel drums). He kinda panicked and didn't know what to do, and I can understand because I've been there myself (it's easy to be critical until you've been there yourself). I reached over and turned off the ignition. We pushed the car back into the driveway of his parent's house. A jet had come loose in the carb and the engine basically "ate" it. It was one of the fastest cars I had ever been in. He's a great "kid" (just a year younger than me, but I always liked him because he was rathert humble. If he by chance sees this, I say HI and thank him for the great experience of a lifetime.

Why can’t GM, Ford and Chrysler simply remake some of their best muscle cars, like this one, with exactly the same bodies just with updated drive trains and suspensions? Why? ---ah never mind, I know why. But the none of the reasons make logically sense to ME. Oh, biceps without shoulders? -that cracks me up. It does make sense in the context.
