Hey Roger, great video. If the spine was correctly located and the guides were properly attached to the blank will there be any bend in the blank when you sight down its length? I ask because I recently went looking for a new inshore spinning rod and when sighting down multiple rods I noticed small bends usually near the last 1/4 of the rod. Are these constructed poorly or is this not an issue? Some rods were $100, others were $300, didn't seem to matter which manufacturer or price.

Ben, thanks for the comment. The "factory bend" is a normal feature to many rods. If you see this, it is not a reflection of bad quality. On inshore rods that have this, you can forget about the spine and go with the factory bend, either up or down. Roger does talk about this at the 2:15 mark in the video.

For a spinning rod, the guides go on the inside of the curve, for a casting rod the guides go on the outside of the curve.

@@flexcoatcompany I was confused because at 2:04 you said “ on a fly rod you put the guides where it bends easiest away from the fish. So actually I’m still confused because if the guides are inside the curve isn’t the rod going to bend very easily TOWARD the fish?

@Zircon_215 Yes you're right. he says place the guides on the opposite side of the natural bend(curve) for fly blanks. But believe me, it won't matter in practice. Just sight the blank and build it as straight as it can be when all guides are on there.
