Thank you so much man, doing my CSB/Guibo/rear CV right now and this has been super helpful. I just wish I did all of this when I had the trans out last year :'(

Glad I could help. I recommend doing shifter bushings while driveshaft is out if not already done.

@@alexdoescars Already did those when I did the clutch 30k miles ago. I just didn't do the CSB while i was in there mistakenly so it took out my giubo. I will say this, loosen the 18mm bolt for holding the two shaft halves together while the shaft is still bolted to the car. That way you don't need to do any janky stuff to break it loose off of the car. I also tightened mine this way too

@@alexdoescars I've watched at least 4-5 videos on this subject matter and no one says to loosen it before taking the shaft out, it's not just you :)

Hi Alex, great video! How tough is it to do this job on jack stands especially when it comes to torquing the bolts? I do not have a lift and am planning to do this job on the jack stands just like you did
@alexdoescars
@alexdoescars 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say not too tough. Hardest part is probably removing the exhaust as it's quite heavy.

@@alexdoescars thanks Alex yup looks like the exhaust will be tough to remove. Luckily I have the mufflers chopped off haha
@alexdoescars
@alexdoescars 2 жыл бұрын
It's not too hard. Mufflers are the heaviest part so having them chopped will help a lot.

Hi Alex I am planning to do this job soon. However I will completely replace the driveshaft together with the CV joint. You marked the ends connecting to the differential and transmission. Since I will be replacing the entire driveshaft I won’t have marks on the ends. Can I just place the driveshaft in any orientation then?
@alexdoescars

I'm not sure. I think you might be good to install it in any position as it should be balanced but you shoud do some research on that. Worst case, there is 1/3 chance it goes right way anyway :)

Can you tell me what are the manufacturers of the new pieces you used? If they are aftermarket, of course. I heard aftermarket pieces for BMW driveshaft were not that good, unlike all the other aftermarket parts for the whole car
@alexdoescars
@alexdoescars 3 жыл бұрын
These are bmw parts ordered from a dealer. Next time I'm under the car I can try to find stamps of actual manufacturer. Bmw doesn't make these, they just put their logo on.

Nothing visible on flex disc and the csb is hidden under heat shield. These are quite reasonable at dealer prices, but if you do go with something else just pick a reputable manufacturer like lemförder for example

MERCEDES OWNER HERE, can someone tell me why this issue is common with German cars but not so much with toyotas, or hondas, ford or chevy cars?
@alexdoescars
@alexdoescars 3 жыл бұрын
I think of it as a fuse, with years of abuse I'd rather have my flex disc go than my differential. I have no experience in American cars nor have I ever worked on an front wheel drive car, do they even have flex dics? These Germans seem to require constant maintenance to keep you from boredom :)
@nazeer3495

because those cars you mention arent rare wheel drive.. the guibo discs go through stress heat during every drive cycle they wear off over time

Just done one today you don't need to remove the cross member to remove drive shift from a e60
@alexdoescars
@alexdoescars 3 жыл бұрын
Don't know about e60 but on e39 it really helps to remove the cross member. At least on reassembly if you want to use torque wrench

@@alexdoescars you do have to spin the shift to one position for each nut but saved me time as I was on my back on the drive
