@@berserko2008 So social media somehow plays a factor into how hard they train? I hate all those apps too but come on; how does that even relate? The day when a bodybuilder decides to put even just 95% of their effort in is the year they give up on running for Mr. Olympia- no matter the generation or what apps they didn't/do have.

@@ballaking1000 my point was you didn't have all these outlets at your fingertips to put yourself out there like nowadays........ you had to bust your ass and have a strong work ethic..... I mean if you weren't there or into the sport and knew how sh%t was back then, you shouldn't even be trying to retort back anything with no ground to stand on....... you had to be really, really, I MEAN BADASS back then to get the notoriety of the magazines and the coverage that so easily obtained from these outlets........

In 1993 he possessed the most aesthetic physique in the history of humanity for fuck’s sakes. Shouldn’t you worship that? The guy had some crazy ass genetics. The 80's and 90's were the pinnacle of bodybuilding because of the fact that they had no form of social media and ran off bodybuilding magazines. People who wanted to start weight training found out about it through the bodybuilding magazines. Nowadays everyone takes gear and thinks they can become a bodybuilder. the 80's and 90's were the cream of the crop, bodybuilding was such an isolated sport back then thats why amazing physiques were produced

I've never heard Flex speaking before this clip and I have to admit he is so damn (or at least he pretended to be) classy and polite, especially if you compare this interview with the one Ronnie did. He basically said the same thing, that those guys wouldn't place in the 90s but on the other side he also said (not exactly these words but still) "ok, but if I compare myself to them I've to say Dexter and Brandon have an Olympia title, something I don't have" and this is a great humble phrase to pronounce, especially coming from THE uncrowned Olympia champ

When I think about my amateur bodybuilding career, starting in 9th grade in 1979, through my college years ending in 1989, I realize that my training, nutrition, supplementation, EVERYTHING wouldn't hold a candle to what is going on right now. I think I worked hard (obviously not hard enough to go pro), but there is no way those in my time could complete with the same training and nutrition as today. What gets to me is the massive amount of injury and illness these days. I'm fairly certain some of my own health problems are a result of "supplementation" in the 80's. I can't imagine what the current guys are going to have to endure later in life.

Flex for me is a Mr. Olympia! N he's more than others that have the title. For example colombo had not a Mr. Olympia physique. I'm not hating on anyone. It's just a fact

Depends than 90s guys may have been more conditioned but with the start of the mass monsters like Dorian and Nasser pushed guys to add more size like Flex, Ray, Labrada which has pushed bbing to where it is now. So judging standards are based off mass primarily and conditioning is more distant criteria. So on average most of todays bbers are bigger than the 90s bbers. I think if the criteria changed than bbers would prioritize conditioning more. But i think with classic physique coming in, conditioning in the open division wont be a priority. Maybe open bbing itself should have weight classes eg heavy, medium and light weight and a posedown for the overall. Then we will see mass monsters go head to head with conditioned athletes and i think would be interesting.

I hear what he's saying about Dexter, but in all fairness, Dexter has gotten better since he competed in the 90s. I don't think he had reached his peak back then yet.

He was close to prime. 99 grand prix Dex was known as the "BLADE" there and still lost. He might moved up a few spots but prime for prime he wouldn't beat Ron Flex Levrone Marcus etc from era

Flex, This is exactly right! The times are different and it does not matter if a sprinter from 15 years ago has a better PB than the best sprinter today. Dexter and the guys are the champions of today and the best in their game today. The sport evolves. Nothing else matters. Respect Flex! That was a proper way of showing respect to the other guys instead of laughing - like the big man with the chicken voice did.... Also not that the big man with the chicken voice thinks that gravity is heavier in a deadlift than in a squat, because in a deadlift, the weight is closer to the ground... I mean.. COME ON!!!!
