That's what makes Ronnie so iconic. He was this legendary monster, that was always just so nice. Him telling Flex the first time he beat him "Man, I beat you. They must think I'm good!". He just had this innocence about how he approached the sport. Confident, but somehow humble at the same time.

I thought the same until about 2000. Quite frankly I thought he went to crap once he started putting on crazy size. His craziest feature was his arms were almost the same size as his waist and that monster V-Taper he had. Just look at his deadlift video from 1994.

I was at the 98 Mr. O in NYC and I can tell you that it was so damn close between Ronnie and Flex that half the crowd was screaming for Ronnie and half screaming for Flex...it was equal in my book...I was happy for Ronnie and upset for Flex at the same time.....I went home feeling that I had the best time in my life and I knew that it was an amazing night....well worth the price of the ticket....both champions

@TheLusianPopa all good points, but I never liked Dorian's biceps. Even before the tear. He was incredible and I saw him guest posing before he won in 92. He was freaking huge, but I was more impressed with Ronnie. I also met him after his first win in early 1999....if Flex Wheeler was a little bit wider and wasn't holding water in his hamstrings then he may have won in 1998. For me, Ronnie Coleman was the best ever. Size, incredible detail and just great muscle thickness....
@wildmike951
@wildmike951 Жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa all good points. Yates changed the sport. But I feel for my taste Ronnie and Jay were both better than Dorian just because of shape, muscle flow and size. All Great champions. Actually when Jay did the quad stomp in 2009, he looked fucking incredible. Probably the best bodybuilding photo ever. Fucking huge with serious cross striations in his quads...people forget how great Jay was. Not only did he win 4 Mr.O titles but he was 2nd place 6 times.
@wildmike951
@wildmike951 Жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa again all good points. You are right about Victor Martinez getting screwed in 2007. I know Dorian Yates was definitely the best conditioned guy. I know that every bodybuilder has their strengths and weaknesses too. All these guys were given gifts on some of their wins. Arnold in 1980, Franco in 81, Haney in 1990, Ronnie in his last win 2005, Jay, and even Dorian in 97( fucked up bicep).But hey, I still like all these champions alot . I don't think that we are going to see any 5 or 6 time Mr Olympia winners in this batch of new guys. Just seems like a different game now. Peace.

Flex had a shitty work ethic. He talks about how Ronnie out trained him every day. Flex partied, Ronnie trained hard. Flex has a myostatin gene defect that allows him to easily put on muscle. He took advantage of that by not training hard. It cost him. Ronnie said if Flex trained like him, Flex would take him. Then the obvious calf implants and the bloated oily triceps ruined his physique symmetry and quality.

Ya I want to believe that but I don’t for some reason. he did get bigger and bigger but I really want to know what show he started juicing at bc he looked jacked even in early and mid 90s. I mean natural competitions are there for a reason. It’s bc they can’t even come close to drugs even with great genes. We all know these guys have great genes but to turn pro without drugs I honestly don’t believe. If you have all these guys with great genetics and work ethic and they take drugs there is simply no way your body can achieve those heights even with genes and hard work. It’s impossible for the both to use the amounts of food they ate. What really sucks is you don’t want to call people liars but it would be kick ass if they were all truthful.

Well, Ronnie in 99 smoked Flex and everyone else even more than in 98 if that's even possible...On that show it was night and day. Flex was huge and was very diced - from the front at least. But turning around it was lights out game over. Also he was heavily enhanced or at least looked as if he was. And judges notice that. Neither 98 nor 99 is even close to be debatable. But it is still sad that such political issues happened like the talk between JW and Ronnie before the last 2 rounds.

Not taking anything away from Ronnie but there should have been 2 Mr Olympia trophies for a few years , I've never seen anything so comic book like than Flex ..to this day

I didn’t like Ronnie for a long time because I thought Flex should’ve been Mr.O for some years, even before Dorian retired. Mass took over the IFBB, and Flex had the best V-taper ever, abs and killer sweep.

I still think Flex Wheeler had the best overall look between size, symmetry, aesthetics. He was the total package and should have won the 98 Olympia and not by a little either. By a mile. Flex Wheeler had the very fullest muscle bellies I have ever seen while at the same time still looking aesthetically pleasing.

Ronnie's size, his proportions, his conditioning and his width was pretty much unmatched at that time it took jay along time to knock a not in his prime and off Ronnie Coleman and Jay was no slouch either and was wide asf but Ronnie was on another level and pushed his body to the limits of what your body can look like when you train hard eat like an animal and sleep to repair your body there will never be another mass monster like Ronnie that is why he is known as the king

Taking moderate amounts of roids and not doing HGH and insulin is being natural according to Flex. No way Ronnie wasn't juicing when he entered the pro scene.

Ronnie is and will always be the greatest of all time. But for fucks sake,flex had that otherworldly sturucture and aesthetics no man till this day has or will have. Truely the sultan of symmetry. What a physique flex had especially in ‘99.

Ronnie admitted on Joe Rogan's podcast that he was indeed on steroids, difference being he didn't do any in the off-season. What is most impressive to me is he was still a cop while competing and that he didn't train crazy amount of hours.

i tried not to think of ronnie as number 1 all the years, just to find a different opinion than the main stream. but man, nobody looked as crazy while still being aesthetic. dorian had the best condition, markus ruhl was the biggest of all time, ronnie coleman was the perfect mix. he sure wasn't as aesthetic as many others, though he was pure dominance. his 2003 physique is just fucking everything else. dorian might came close, if only his peak would have been 10 years later = better drugs.
