Flexible limbs rigging with DUIK - After Effects Tutorial

Hey! In this super short After Effects tutorial, Sasha Dudka ( / sasha__dudka ) will show you how to make flexible limbs with DUIK. After watching this video you’ll be able to easily animate any flexible limb whether it’s a tentacle or a tail.

Thanks for the Tutorial :) The rotation animation at the end doesn't work for me though... It just rotates a flat curve and doesn't bend and move like a tentacle :/ What am I doing wrong? I've set the same values for resistance and such just like you

Nevermind xD I just figured out that you just have to set two or more keyframes with random values for the rotation and the it starts bending like it should :)

I haven't been able to get it to work...like nothing she used came up on the UI. I assume it's cause this is an older version of the Duik? I've fiddled around with the plugin but just...confusion lol. I managed to add pins, autorig is...um...partially successful, i have 3 controls like some comments say, but i can't find that button for FK overlap, let's not mention i can't even find parameters that i can change in the controls... yah i'm giving up on Duik Edit: Ok i found the Bassel version of Duik.... now my second problem is.... when i change the rotation parameter, the tentacle does not wave, instead it spins on the axis.... any idea why? I am fairly sure i did everything as said T^T

this works great except for one major problem, its leaving a static outline of the stroke behind the tentacle/tail. the only way to remove this is to remove the stroke from the object. is there anyway to make this work strokes ?

Maybe its in your puppet tool settings. If expansion is set to a negative value (e.g. -1) your mesh will be smaller than your grafic, leaving a little edge behind. Your settings are in the top center with puppet tool selected

it's a great way to move limbs, hair etc... but what if I want my object to move forward using position. All these puppets distort the object with an applied puppet tool. How can I solve this? The same thing with a bend it effect. I used an expression toComp(value) but it doesn't help. So it only works fine if I don't move the object

I'm doing exactly the same thing, with Duik 2, I even download the project file, and start with the bones you made, Rotation parameter doesn't bend the tail like that, Curve parameter does something similar but not Rotation 🙄

It's because of which order you select the bones, Duik knows the order you've selected the bones. So try the inverse order. (Top to bottom or bottom to top)

The result is amazing ! But I think because the duik bassel is udpated, when I click "Autorig & IK" button, I have 3 controllers instead of 1 in your video, and the parameters are not the same. Any idea what's my problem ?

well, I've found it too:) If someone needs the answer: on the right side from the button "autorig & IK" there is a circle. You should press it and choose "prefer FK overlap"

увеличиваешь тентаклю в раза два, всовываешь в прекомп, обрезаешь (можно использовать плагин pt_CropPrecomps), этот прекомп подгоняешь по размеру, на нем ставишь папеты, потом создаешь кости, ригаешь, сам прекомп тоже вешаешь на главную кость или нул ЗЫ: обязательно проверяй нет ли на прекомпе "солнышко" ибо с ним оно будет гавнится, а вот изначальное увеличение прекомпа делается для того чтобы не пикселило

Hi, this was such an awesome tutorial! Is there anyone out there who could help me with this project of mine? So I've created an octopus logo for a client. I would really like it to animate from its given start position with bent tentacles, to the flexible limbs moving, back to its original position. The logo animation would start when hovered/clicked on. So is there anyone willing to help or give some advice on how to approach this? Thanks in advance!

I think as you cannot fiddle with the bones transform too much when using IK, your way will be overlaying with the snapshot button the first farme and match it manually

1. i cannot download the project file, i entered email, first name, last name, download.. but nothign happens, turned my adblocker and still no file downloaded after i tried again there is nothing new on my email too after 8hours 2. i can use ctrl + r to summon the rulers and guide but i cant seem to make pins as neat as that, how do you make your pins follow the guide so neatly? 3. the link gave me duik angela and not bassel2, and it has different menus, there is only auto-rig instead of rigging and it gave me an error "there is no controller", and when i tried ading a few controllers at guess, nothing was similar to tentacle and the pins werent used at all. SOLVED in point 4 i would love some fast help on this UPDATE: 4. downloaded duik bassel 16.2.30, after i press add bones > auto rig > edit some specs like flexibility etc > moving the C | "layer name" transformer doesnt move the image at all. 5. nvm issue 5 is solved now
