Interesting...did the ground crew/fire dept immediately paint over the tail number?
@bl88-884 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I'm guessing the operator of this flight (FlexJet) had it painted prior to the flight. Which seems pretty odd because I'm not exactly sure, but I thought the FARs required a registration number that is clearly visible and in contrasting colors. The only way that I know of to get away with not displaying a registration number according to FAR part 45 is if the aircraft is preparing for "immediate delivery to a foreign customer". Maybe someone with more experience with corporate bizjets can chime in?
@Banshee3654 жыл бұрын
The tail number was covered after the incident. This is common with incidents involving larger airlines and charter outfits. I don’t personally see the point but they do it to try to mask the identity of the operator of the aircraft. Lookup images of FedEx 910 and you’ll see another example of that.
@bl88-884 жыл бұрын
@@Banshee365 Interesting, thanks. I never would have thought about that. Any idea what the overall purpose is? Anyone who really wants to look into it can pull the records without much trouble. First off IANAP, so I'm asking a question to learn, not as criticism of the pilot involved. Given that he had a mechanical issue that caused him to go around and ask for "non-standard" treatment from ATC, wouldn't it have been appropriate for him to declare a PANPAN when he went around?
@MyGoogleYoutube4 жыл бұрын
No.
@bl88-884 жыл бұрын
Not in this case. Because the nature of the emergency could have led to a loss of flight control, it's absolutely appropriate for an emergency (mayday) to be declared rather than an urgency (pan pan). On a plane like that, you definitely don't want to be in the air any longer than you have to be without hydraulic pressure.
@KeithHearnPlus4 жыл бұрын
@@bl88-88 Thanks. I wasn't thinking that they shouldn't have eventually declared an emergency, I was just wondering why they didn't declare something right after they aborted the initial approach. I can understand not wanting to declare an emergency until they had looked at the situation a bit more, but a PANPAN seemed appropriate right off the bat. I know that go arounds happen (and *should* happen), but to do a go around and then just want to hang around in the airspace doing checklists kind of indicates that the pilots knew they had some sort of situation on their hands. But I also know that I don't have any experience in these matters (other than watching a bunch of videos), which is why I'm asking, I'd like to understand better. Thanks again.
@MyGoogleYoutube4 жыл бұрын
@@KeithHearnPlus The first step is to fly the plane. That is it. Notification to atc of a go around comes after wards. Which is exactly what they did. They did notify atc of the go around. To which atc acknowledged and gave them vectors. Once you've established your climb and started your go around then notify atc of the go around when time permits. If it's vmc.....they will notice pretty quick.

A "fancy" private jet. Pilots working for the "company". The clean up on the runway may have to be paid by that company if it proves the leak came from an issue with either the plane or the maintenance. The people responsible for runway maintenance should not be left to pay the bill of the cleaning. That is an answer to one of the ATC guys.....The city has nothing to do with that.....and I am not a lawyer, just using common sense.
@marcocasati69534 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! establishing how fancy a jet is one of the cornerstones of aviation safety, unfortunately the airport ops will get charged the full bill, but hey, if you get into the runway maintenance business you know what the risks are!
@aeternusdoleo45314 жыл бұрын
Might it be that the airport authorities are simply part of the city government? Not unusual for large airports I believe, so it would be "the city" that would send workers out in that case. And they'd be billing for the work done too.
@Supersonicff-dw6bs4 жыл бұрын
Come on, they said it was a small leak. A very small amount of speedy dry (aka kitty litter) probably took care of the leaked fuild and was sweep up in a minute or two before the tire was reinstall. The engines are running so the only pressure in the system is residual and it was probably a damaged brake line.
@chadpollman79704 жыл бұрын
One consideration to keep in mind is that the threat of a bill might discourage the crew/company from taking the best course of action in response to their in-flight emergency, just to avoid the bill. The mind can be a terrible risk/reward calculator, particularly in the middle of an emergency. You don’t want to confuse it unnecessarily with the perceived threat of certain punishment for making what amounts to the best available decision in the current circumstance. If the situation originated because of negligence, that can be investigated and dealt with separate from the emergency response itself. I don’t know this for certain, but it seems to me that the cost of emergency services is (or ought to be) already accounted for in the routine fees that aircraft pay when operating at these airports. If so, it’s not as if the airport incurred an unaccounted-for expense by responding to an emergency.
@markairman80414 жыл бұрын
Not sure your point of a working for ‘the company’ since almost all professional pilots work for ‘a company’, somewhere. Be it Delta, Air France, or in this case, Flex jet. Further, a significant oil or fuel spill on the runway will result in cleanup fees charged to any operator - who doesn’t have in-house resources to clean it up themselves. The airplanes based there (Delta) may have their own spill response team so that the city won’t have to use their resources. In this case the fire chief said it was a small leak a that did t require a clean up, so no clean up costs. And since an inspection of the runway didn’t require additional expenses on part of the city (I.e. overtime or absorbent materials), it’s not likely any cost would be incurred there either. But, you will be happy to know that the ‘fancy plane’ will still have to pay a hefty cost. That will be for the tow, the landing fee, the ramp fees, the overnight(s) parking fee, plus aircraft repair, and aircraft return to service inspection. Ouch!
