(Using my gfs account here) I saw Nick at an event early this year in Jan in Tampa. He seemed really anxious and can see how some may see it as arrogant or stand off-ish. I have a lot of friends with childhood trauma. Some are made better by it but others really never function the same, and the very unfortunate ones develop really severe ptsd and other personality disorders like Borderline, Narcissism and even Psychopathy. I appreciate Nick for being so transparent and honest as Men’s mental health is still a very taboo topic and really needs to be addressed more. It really stands at the root of many of society’s problems in general. Bodybuilding is an organizing principle. It may seem vain and self-centered to many, but it really does serve as an organizing principle and lifestyle that allows for a lot of introspection that we as men may have a hard time doing at times. It also builds esteem and character and it really goes to show with Nick that alot of mental health struggles can be overcome in this very way. I have a little psychology background and certainly am no one to diagnose but Nick spoke alot here. Perhaps why it’s hard for him to date, stay with sponsors/brands etc bc It seems to be he has unstable attachment issues/disturbances and obviously alot of anxiety and all of the aftermath of such egregious and inhuman abuse. People have to realize that that level of abuse really questions your own humanity and devalues you in such a way that for many people they never function the same. Trauma is not a choice. The mind collapses in ways that many times can never be undone without high class therapy modalities that are very expensive and hard to find true, self-less, experts even if they do try to seek the help. That’s why drugs and alcohol is such an easy choice and of course abusing others. There just cheap therapy substitutes. Nick needs to dig deeper and face his demons. The power is in him. I have a feeling once he discovers this he will approach his sport from a different angle and most likely be number one in Men’s Open bodybuilding…

Nick, good job man. Not for nothing, but growing up in Jersey, not trusting others is par for the course. lol I have had to deal with shit myself. I've lived two of your lifetimes, and the one thing I can tell you is to embrace the living hell out of the relationships that are positive in your life. I can relate to shooting my mouth off telling everyone the career I'd have and shooting my mouth off telling everyone I was going to compete. There was no backing out. I had never taken a day off from my job because I was afraid I'd lose my patients. This went on for almost 10 years. Once I let my wife, at the time, talk me into taking some time off from work, it was the beginning of the end. It becomes too easy to skip a day at work or at the gym. Don't back off until your shit is right in your head. Good Luck
