Flextail Gear Tiny Repel | Does it Work?
After some situational testing I have an opinion on whether the Flextail tiny repel works or not. This is a multi use camping item, including a mosquito repellent, a camping lantern and an emergency power bank.

I have had this for about a month or so and I camp in woodland which has loads of bugs! I’ve found it has really worked for me. Far better than covering yourself in stinky, sticky repellant! I have commented on Flextail’s website about this, and been asked several questions about does it work? Yes it does! 😊

It’s a great bit of kit love mine , what people need to remember is it’s a mosquito repellent, the pads are designed for mosquitoes , midges are a different ball game 👍

G'day mate, could be wrong, but I dont expect it will handle ticks or wasps either; I'd suggest @ least 50% DEET to have any hope with that lot. But for sure small flys and mozzies are the main nuisance, not to mention they can and do transmit some nasty diseases; in fact I've heard it said, more than once, mozzies are the most dangerous animal on the planet; and I'm sure that's right too,....statistically, ..... though perhaps they haven't met some of our venomous snakes or sea creatures for example, lol. Cheers Duke.

In any case, as outdoors folk, we aint all chemistis, so if you advertise it will do it, either put up or shut up ; ). Cheers Duke.

Hey Dan, you had that on one of our camps I think - yes? It was good from what I remember. It really did keep the bugs away, even in a woodland camp. Good review and useful suggestions for use. Thank you :)

G'day Dan, very pleased to hear it works, I did assume so, but thanks for the hard evidence. It is good that its multiuse, though it is another thing to carry. I reckon it would be good if you could just get the repellent part alone, I think most folks will already take a higher capacity powerbank and other sources of lighting. Mind you, it never hurts to have back up and it is quite light weight. Like the tripod mount, either will theirs or one you already own. Yep, great for alfresco dining; backyard, picnic .... or indeed down the local beer garden, .....top idea mate !!! .......... seriously considering one on that basis alone, lol. Cheers Duke.

Looks good certainly, but I am very surprised that a waterproof device can have a permanently exposed charging hole. This seems like a glaring oversight tbph, and many other waterproof/outdoor products have a rubber cover to protect the charge port. Because of this I am not sure I should buy it until this has been remedied.

Nice review on your part Dan👍X2.. Seems to work on the principal of heating a pad of repellent using a battery instead of butane like the Thermacell brand. Either way these things can be a real life saver if mosquitos etc. are eating you alive. Thanks for the video bro.

it doesnt work properly. I have used mine with terrible results and now the company is sending me new pads. I put the old pads in my thermacell and it worked great. I took the front off the of the flex tail and the heating element only gets 145C thats 20 degrees colder than advertised and this is why it doesnt work properly.

You were somewhere moist and needed a gadget with a light! Gigidy. Apologies, you can take the boy out of the Army………… Currently sat in France and an ad popped up on FB for this item. As always, I chose to find reviews via KZbin and came across yours. I like the fact that you can buy a generic pad for these. May I ask if you have trialled the generic pads along side Flextail pads? How do they come up in a price comparison? Nice review and nice to listen to a British review! 🍻👍🏻

This is a the same concept as a thermacell for anyone familiar. The thermacell uses the same chemicals on pads that are heated with butane. You buy repellant pads and small, non refillable bottles of butane to use the item. Well, they work. Its basically and aerosoled version of permethrin, a proven insect repellant/insecticide used worldwide by outdoorsman, militaries, etc. The flextail version improves on this old design. Most of us aren’t off grid for extended periods. A battery powered system is more convenient, cheaper (no refills needed), and faster (the pads heat up quicker). The pads flextail sells are cheaper as well. Not to mention the size factor, the flextail is much more carry friendly than the thermacell. Initial purchase price is higher, $50 for the flextail vs $30 for the thermacell, but you’ll easily recoup that difference the first time you buy repellant refills. The flextail also isn’t heated via combustion, so in theory it’s also safer. If you spend any time outdoors, or are a mosquito magnet like I am you’ll enjoy this product.

Man. I really wish these would work for me but they don’t. The mosquitoes in Houston Texas must be immune 😂 Also, I really don’t trust all those poisonous fumes you’re breathing in, getting on your skin and on any food/water around when using these. A breathable wind suit and a bug net on my head might look a bit funny but at least I’m not getting eaten alive
